Ocean: a man (?) who has NOTHING to do..

I saw it yesterday, and I would have liked to review it myself, so I’ll go on for a while.. There are so many unoriginal ideas in this film that it would be pointless to list them: it’s a colossal mess that draws from the sci-fi fantasy imagery of the '70s and '80s cartoons + "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and a tiny pinch of Lovecraft.. And that’s fine because in the end it entertains you on a warm July evening. The (relative) problem is that the plot exists, but it’s completely made up of stereotypes beloved by Hollywood, with characters that are way too familiar, and it would have been better if they really hadn’t been there.. It doesn’t make you laugh (the two scientists AREN’T FUNNY AT ALL, and neither is Ron Perlman, utterly useless), but it is fun when monsters and giant robots start slapping each other. The battles are really well done, even though at times it feels like watching a colossal video game. Sometimes it’s true, the pacing drags and during the dialogues you think "Stop talking, grab that fucking barrel and go beat up Godzilla..".
I found the special effects stunning but functional overall; in short, Del Toro knows how to use them.. The ending is disappointing for two reasons: a- everyone should have died; b- that fucking rift does NOT unleash Cthulhu, and that’s bad.. Having expectations for a film like this is completely wrong because it should have been clear that it's a silly escapade into adolescent regression, despite Del Toro’s talent.. There could have been many more "freak" moments (maybe related to the kajiu parts market), and they could have skipped saving the world once again from the Yankees.. But these are discussions that don't make sense. It's not a good film because it can't be; it doesn't make sense to criticize it in depth as a blockbuster stuffed with stereotypes with absolutely nothing original.. It does its job, and to get back to your (ineffective) review, it does it muuuuch better than the horrors shat out by Michael Bay, who I don't even consider a director.. I always cheer for Del Toro and I’m waiting for him in the future, with Shoggoth and Great Old Ones.. And thanks for sparing us a final kiss that would have made me end the viewing with an epic "God damn it"..

A frankly useless review filled with trivialities and embarrassing inaccuracies. It's pointless to waste words on this piece of Western culture, which for me is the most beautiful album by King Crimson, just slightly ahead of "Lizard."
