This year I’ve done better than usual and better than all of you: I didn’t have the slightest inkling that this stuff was being broadcast or that anyone was “conducting” or watching it. You showed up to remind me that, instead, we’re still at certain infamous and morbid levels of provincialism. Wasting so much time, talent, and characters trying to give shape to something comparable to the old stench of three-day-old ragù made with the white fat meat from Eurospin, that smell of living death that lingers in the humid, moldy air of the miserable ground floors of countless guts of Italy—well, expending effort to give weight to all this is neither masochism nor madness, but a simple insult to the very concept of a review, and at the same time, a cacophonous celebration of the decay of what remains of our culture.
