Genesis Wind & Wuthering

The argument that without Peter the others would have shifted towards melodramatic pop rock is simply not acceptable. What is this, now Peter was the angry one and the others some sort of boy band? Are we kidding? Aside from the fact that the songs you mention are not even by Peter (for instance, in Musical Box, Gabriel didn't compose even a minute), you’re telling me that the others were pop-rock souls while he was the prog one? What you’re asserting is absolutely biased and false; it doesn't hold up from any standpoint. Gabriel was not the music of Genesis; he was their image. Without Tony, Mike, and the others, Pete would have just been an eccentric singer, and that’s it.

I believe that deifying the figure of Peter is a common mistake. It is excessive to think that a group of badass composers like Genesis could artistically depend on a single person whose musical contribution has always been minimal. We should try to separate the myth from the artistic merits, which are indeed vast and abundant, in my opinion, at least up to Duke.

I wouldn't call Banks a dictator: he was irascible and a jerk, but in this regard, others also had their own lovely personalities. I find it absurd to equate tracks like Ripples, Entangled, and Mad Man Moon with pop rock and "sweet, sweet melodies" that are so beloved by the female audience. It’s a colossal heresy, almost unacceptable. Gabriel has always been, in a way, the mask of Genesis, behind which first Anthony Phillips has hidden (let's not forget that until at least Foxtrot his influence is still heavy), then Tony and Mike.. No one doubts his lyrical abilities and personality, but writing songs is another thing compared to inventing embellishments, disguises, and surreal stories, with all due respect.. Wind & Wuthering is, like and more than A Trick of the Tail, the album of the true Genesis, without façades, masks, or visual ballast..

Comment number 17 of the 1968 Paolo contains the true truth about Genesis... After all, that is what I, like many other objective Genesians, have been repeating for years.

Perfectly avoidable operation, which resurrects without acceptable justifications a song that can hardly be described as a disappointment for the intellect. Sadness overflows copiously from every single gesture and "artistic" initiative related to the 883 and their monstrous frontman... God save us...

If you're looking for it in stores, good luck.. The best I've managed to find is a double with Labyrinth and Roots.. The others, alas, I've had to download.. I hope to recover them sooner or later.. Cheers..

Good review that is really pushing me right now to start a new download. I only know Steve's debut, but I'll remedy that immediately. Too bad about the last paragraph, biased and malicious.

Wonderful album, perhaps my favorite by Genesis. Deeper, more complex, and melancholic than its predecessor, it contains a handful of unforgettable masterpieces: the epic symphony of "One For The Vine," the Sistine Chapel of Banks, the dazzling sadness of "Blood On The Rooftops," and the pure emotion of "Afterglow." The rest remains high-class music. In short, a summa of the greatness of Genesis. I'm sorry, but in my opinion, this album deserves more.
