THE REVIEW

Hi guys, here I am to talk with you (but especially FOR you, I'm an altruist by nature!) about the EP that opened the eyes of an entire generation, those who were 16 in '97, in the throes of adolescent turmoil of a scorching and memorable summer.

Max Pezzali from Pavia managed to replicate what until then was the absolute youthful (and not) reference for the relationship between man and woman encapsulated in a single behavioral rule, the Ferradini's Theorem. "The Friend's Rule" was able to provide an alternative view, expressed as a theorem, of that awkward position of a faithful confidant of an attractive person who is, at the same time, wanton and determined. Who has never faced an alluring classmate who, needing a "little help" (what a 90's word!) in a math class assignment, approaches you, the bespectacled and diligent high school student, with a wanton and smiling demeanor? In the end, there is always a small chance of success in love, even when it is unattainable, in front of the seductive classmate. Jealous of your friends, who unsuccessfully pounce on her, YOU are the one she can confide in, you are the friend, more important even than peers because of a lack of sensitivity and a detached perspective that the opposite sex guarantees.

How cruel and exciting at the same time is this understanding!

And what about the song, accompanied by an unforgettable video where the not so photogenic Max is accompanied by seductive dancers, whom, in my personal interpretation, I see as the special friend of someone, the very one described by Pezzali. The dance environment is accompanied by timeless synths, while the women and Max sway in those discos with immense dance floors, so fashionable in the 90s yet anachronistic now, replaced by more intimate, human-sized venues.

A memorable and timeless song, my revisiting was necessary to illustrate for you (just for you) a snapshot of what the 90s were depicted by a single piece, with frivolity and materialism at the same time, because I am sure that you, too, have stepped at least once in your life in an immense ballroom with her in front of you, the friend from the unfortunate platonic relationship.

Nostalgically yours,
