Sirenia Nine Destinies And A Downfall

Wow... I can hardly find anything to criticize in this review (aside from the imperfections regarding the tracklist, which are ultimately negligible)! You perfectly expressed everything I thought while listening to this album. I must admit I started out with great prejudices towards "nine destinies and a downfall," which were confirmed by a quick initial listening online but were dismantled after completing a detailed analysis of each song. It's a very melodic, catchy, and listenable album (a significant step forward compared to the pretentiousness of the previous one), at times even moving (but it must be said, Sirenia have never been outstanding), and yet it's too prone to self-recycling and interpretative coldness (especially from the new entry Monika Pedersen, who is too static, monotonous, and lacks harmony in some contexts, nearly off-key in others). The only critique I feel like making is that your style seems—in my view—to mirror mine quite closely. I’m not saying this to brag; I understand that two people can have a similar writing style, but going back to read my two old reviews of the same band, I feel as if I’m facing a mold of those adapted for this occasion to the new LP (I challenge anyone to say otherwise). Moreover, I noticed significant similarities with my reviewing style in Fede’s review of Klimt 1918. I hope the new reviewers of the Debaser community won’t take offense—I certainly don’t consider myself an exceptionally original writer; in fact, I believe I still have a long way to go to reach "myths" like Fjelltronen, Stefano "Abstract" Pentassuglia, and others! However, dear Hell, seeing this review has stirred a conflicting feeling in me: on one hand, there's the pleasure of seeing a well-written review and perhaps the hope that I have influenced others with my consistent work over the past few months; on the other hand, there's the bitterness in realizing that someone might have relied on a bit of "plagiarism" of my work to write something decent. That said, I don’t deny the possibility of being mistaken; it’s not worth getting further into a polemic... the review, I repeat, is accurate and follows standards that I personally tend to uphold, therefore it deserves a solid 4. Now we'll see the next ones and if, especially, you'll be able to tackle more challenging groups with the same "ease."

a response worthy of the name you carry.. in reality, it is something much more refined.

Look a bit... one of the albums I've enjoyed the most lately treated in this way (I'm not referring to the rating... but to the review; what a shame to call these few lines you've displayed above with that term...). In any case, I completely disagree with what has been presented: the alternating of male and female vocals fits perfectly, but I believe that the growl is too distinctive a trait to be eliminated. The electronic inserts are beautiful and never feel out of place, the guitars are brutal, and the keyboards are moving ("Loser's ballet" = Masterpiece).

It annoys me to see someone write so stupidly about a band I admire... I believe it's normal and appropriate to express my opinion. It would be like someone coming up to tell me that Dracula is an important novel because it's the first to talk about vampires. What the hell kind of statement is that? I've often heard it and I wonder if the mouths of those who handed out this phrase were connected to a reasoning brain! I don't know if the analogy holds, but I hope the concept is clear. And anyway, I will never leave; on the contrary, I will fight to improve the quality of this site, always making improvement my primary goal (and I assure you that these scraps of fourth-grade essays give me more than one cue to do so). Best regards. +lovelorn+

I'll say it here, at the risk of coming off as the annoying and presumptuous type. I don't like your style (if we must credit your childish writing with having one); I have read all your reviews and found them static and incapable of communicating any feeling that arose in you during listening. As for the vocabulary, it must be said that variety is a concept that's practically unknown to you. Moreover, it seems, from the way you talk about it, that we are facing the same album with different covers. In short, we could also overlook the poverty of expression (after all, it's known that Italy is not exactly a shining beacon for great writers; it's a country where any random Moccia is considered an artist...poor us!), but I believe that people who are unable to express themselves would do better to limit themselves to reading other people's reviews. Regarding the genre you tackle, there are wonderful writers (from whom I obviously exclude myself, but I think my level at least reaches a formal sufficiency)...why continue to tarnish this site with such disappointing reviews? If I recorded a disc and read such filth, my arms would drop...what a depression! I appeal to the editors: please, read all the reviews you receive carefully and try to publish only the most valid ones; the site will gain in reputation and fame! With a lighthearted invitation for the reviewer to step back, I salute all those who think like me but perhaps don’t have the nerve to say things as they are.
