As for bands in general... I like to associate music with REAL emotions, which I didn't find in this album. I'm not going to randomly name others from different genres like someone else did, I'm not interested. Symphony X, like Dream Theater and the like, are known everywhere for their undeniable technical skills, not for their great expressiveness... this album is empty, sterile, it conveys nothing because it contains music that is meticulously studied and composed with the brain rather than the heart, crafted to appeal to lovers of hyper-technical solos, of odd time signatures like 7/8, etc. And those who seek emotion in music notice these things... but, de gustibus non disputandum est, so let's end it here... just remember that the person writing this isn’t doing it because they dislike a genre, as they have appreciated certain things from a certain Arjen Lucassen.

I listened to the album, I downloaded it because everyone was talking about it positively... maybe it’s not all about technical display, but for me, it's almost all about showing coldness. In any case, my critique won’t be constructive, because maybe I’m not an expert like you, but your review is too biased, and you can’t make certain statements thinking you won’t be criticized, and then, with a victim's attitude, criticize the users of this site... also because every tiny opinion can be valid for improvement. No one asked you to change genre or not think what you write; you’re free to do so, for heaven's sake, but don’t climb the walls with useless justifications. Admit that you've been too biased, and no one will hold it against you! P.S.: And I’d like to point out that I gave a 3 to the review, because despite everything it is well written, and it’s clear that we are not dealing with the usual kid caught up in the hype of the moment's band...

"They have a technique superior to the average and manage to express themselves more articulately than others"—this is what you think, but as you can see, only the fanatics of this genre believe it, and they seem to get excited and pleased with every release for the inevitable display of technique... but please, I may not be a great connoisseur of the genre, but I listen to a lot (and different) music, and to praise a band like this, which fails to transmit me ANYTHING, I find it absurd and nonsensical! As for me, I have not criticized the genre but only the reviewed album, so spare me your victimhood as an unappreciated fanatic... and to finish, I would point out that the review itself mainly highlights the technical abilities of the band in question, not their interpretative skills or the emotions they can convey (partly because it takes courage to say that such icy pieces can express anything. In fact, perhaps their presumption is expressed quite well!). If you want, I can quote your own phrases; you surely didn’t mean to lack objectivity, but to say that Allen is the best rock singer (thus extending the criterion to practically 50% of today’s musical realities)... oh yes, what great objectivity this is!

As usual for robymichieletto, the review is on the verge of being too brief, but in fact there isn't much more to say about this album, even though I would have mentioned at least the fun cover of All About Us by t.A.T.u... Anyway, it's enjoyable to listen to, and although it's not anything profound, it isn't pretentious either. P.S.: there are definitely no gothic arrangements.

But why are you arguing about genres in front of a band that already has far too many die-hard fans (the message from actingout defending them with all their might, also bringing in opinions from knowledgeable friends, is clear proof of that). Let them be there with their Allen, a great interpreter, with their Romeo, an expressive guitarist, with their suites that last thirty minutes, with their 3/4 and 7/8 time signatures... those who are not interested should move on, good music is not just about technique. Ah, I clarify from the outset that I mention there is no prejudice, because I have listened to the album and I am amazed at how one can say that such music is a masterpiece. Perhaps with a frozen heart and a mind dazed by too many stylistic exercises...

the review is very nice, I don’t know them, just as I don’t know much about the genre either. lately they say that even the turisas have quite a lot to say...

I totally agree and wholeheartedly endorse the last two comments. They perfectly expressed what I wanted to say... even though I believe such a band doesn't even deserve the attention of its detractors.
