So: I don't know who Cancer are (you might be arming yourself with a rifle and looking for my address) but the Black from Mayhem doesn't seem at all cheesy to me, nor chaotic.
Having read a couple of your reviews, it seems to me that you appreciate (or appreciated) Darkthrone; this leads me to wonder whether Mayhem or the proponents of raw black metal were more chaotic. Sure, maybe you say that the chaos of Mayhem is excessive and gratuitous, but I don't believe that. And Black is not exactly introspective music (at least in my opinion), but it's music that transmits emotions, which is different. There is a big difference between bands like Xasthur or Burzum and others like Satyricon or Darkthrone; sometimes you want to detach your mind from the outside and journey within yourself, other times you want to listen to the strong emotions that black gives you, perfectly integrated into reality. Comparing Bathory to Deathcrush... I can't say much about that, I haven't listened to this album, and I trust on the word that it is more important than the debut of Mayhem (even if something had already been done by Venom), but to the statement that they are NOT RELEVANT at all for extreme metal (I trust you were talking about the black side of it) I can only disagree, arguing that Mayhem have outlined and shaped what Quorthon launched in a rougher form. I can't tell you if Deathcrush is less black than "Bathory," but I'm convinced that what Mayhem did afterward is pure black metal. The character of Euronymous, finally, is certainly not an example of a satanic blackster, extremist, nihilistic, cynical, and solitary; rather, he seems more like a stupid thrasher inspired by Mustaine. However, the musician-character he created was exceptionally charismatic from a human perspective (as Death would say), establishing himself on the scene as an idol, a role model, also supporting the entire genre still developing. I know you are not a great expert in black, Lord Impalatore, but I am far less than you; however, Mayhem are the band that introduced me to Black Metal, so I will defend them tooth and nail, and I consider their music 100% black, not of the best quality, but of the most important... stay brutal.

Speaking of death, I listened to Nocte Obducta (Nektar part 1): G-E-N-I-A-L-E, truly amazing. Congratulations on the albums you review.

I'll try, tepes (don't tear me apart right away): Mayhem, although not the first to create 100% black metal, certainly anticipated it more than Quorthon did a few years earlier, inspiring (and it's undeniable) many of the early masters of the genre. De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is then a little (black) gem of Black Metal, and honestly, I don't see much Thrash that could dislodge it from its genre. As for Euronymous, yes, he was a fool, who made a name for himself as the character he became and for the charisma that captivated the audience, but he certainly didn't have zero value in terms of music; he was a good guitarist and a good composer. He didn't create the black movement per se, but he supported it and helped it, proving to be a fool, but a fool who did something good, even without intending to. And then the idea that he deserved to die seems excessive to me; he wasn't Hitler, for fuck's sake. I don’t judge Varg for what he did; he must have had his reasons, but I can't say I’m happy about the death of the prince of death. Lastly, I believe (please don't take offense) that discrediting Mayhem is in (small) part a result of the dislike you have for this group... or maybe I'm wrong. In any case: Stay Brutal.

no euronymous, no mayhem. a bit drastic as a viewpoint, but it seems somewhat justified to me (hellhammer has always seemed like a good drummer, but he should have focused on other bands). I haven't heard the album, so I won't judge. the review is, as usual: excellent.

I feel a bit out of place commenting among these cultural exchanges... tell me the truth: you live for music, you're addicted. Great job as usual, death, you’re back in full swing.

He's back! Praise the (dark) lord! As always, the emotional side of the review is moving; I wonder how you do it... As for Nortt, I can't quite "absorb" it; it feels like I have to strain my ears too much and get nothing out of it. I prefer xasthur... Ah, of course, my approach to black is thanks to you, Death; I will never stop thanking you for the advice you've given me ;-)
