In the end, you did it then!!! Beautiful! I haven't found the record yet (I have my quirks. I want it original at all costs...) and your review makes me feel quite a bit of impatience. Congratulations on the review, you have a truly wide vocabulary and, above all, you use it with great taste. Bye!

Come on, no way, 4... Until it Sleeps and Hero of the Day I like, but giving 4 seems like an offense to hard rock albums (because that's what this is about, there's no metal here) that get a couple of spins. The review could also be nice, but the story about the ridicule of Metallica from the Black album onwards is known even by rocks...

I could give you some examples of Italian singer-songwriters with important lyrics and music that is anything but neglected, but given your tastes, I don't think you'd appreciate them that much. :-) As for the PS, I enjoy discussions without insults, but if it makes you uncomfortable, I can throw in a "vaffanculo" for you. :-) Bye and have a great weekend!

Finally YES! I find myself (pretty much) in agreement with your latest post (I was a bit afraid of ending up like Chinaski...). The only difference is that I love Italian singer-songwriter music (the good kind, mind you) just as much as Anglo-American rock or jazz; it's just that I give an "added value" to the lyrics because I believe they are its core. PS: Isn't it nice to discuss all this without insults, don't you think?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The cow... Sorry, I was dozing off. I think it's a spotted suppository, but it could also be something more philosophical...

Sorry Lux, we wrote the post together... So: regarding the historical metric for artistic evaluation, I don't fully agree. Yes, it can be an objective assessment but I believe it's not complete. If a song or an album is clearly inspired by past works, they are (according to what you say) historically less relevant than others, but that’s not enough to "devalue" them. Take Elliot Smith as an example: his songwriting can be defined in a thousand ways (I adore him) but surely it's not original. That doesn’t mean it lacks value. You can say that a thousand people before him (or any other example you want to take, it doesn't matter the subject) have done the same things, but that doesn’t take away any value from it in my opinion.

Well Lux, your reasoning makes sense. Just to give an example (also referring to Larrok's comment), I really love Ocean Songs by Dirty Three; it moves me like few other instrumental or non-instrumental things. However, when I come across a sung piece, I can't be indifferent to its lyrics. A song by any of your favorite bands (without naming names since too many have already been mentioned) with lyrics like a children's song is awful regardless of the music. I highly appreciate the fusion between lyrics and music: the latter can evoke the same emotions, amplifying them compared to an instrumental piece or a poem, or opposite emotions by playing on the contrast effect.
If you prefer to pay more attention to the music, that’s fine; I do that sometimes too, but it depends on what I'm listening to. You can't judge all genres by the same standard, do you agree? For example, in front of "I milanesi ammazzano il sabato," I believe the lyrics hold the same importance (if not more) than the music.
