From Leonard Gardner's novel: an encounter between two boxers – one in the twilight of his career, the other at the beginning – set against the backdrop of a small town in California. It’s something more and better than an excellent boxing film (about the shadowy side of the boxing world, that of the proletarians of the gloves): it’s a clear-eyed and disillusioned diagnosis (without romantic musings on the theme of failure) of the desolate and bitter aspects of prosperous America. Deep compassion and tenderness for the characters. Dry and dense like good Hemingway. Fat City is slang (boxing, jazz) for saying paradise on earth, therefore inaccessible... this is Fat City, according to Morandini, who gives it 4 stars. Interesting, I had never heard of it before. I trust it, because it’s by Huston, one of my favorite directors.

Blackdog, you’re right, it’s a family of beauties, even the sister (who did photo novels) is at the same level. I like the daughter too.

Considering when it was released, as far as I remember, it seems to me that Spleen nicely described the main reason for the film. I clearly remember Muti, who was stunning.
