uxo, where did you get your information? I translated literally. Blut means blood, arsch means ass. But it's possible that the two compound words may have another meaning.

I've only read the first comments; it's said that Blutharsch in Old German means coagulated blood, which might be true, but literally translated it means bloodied ass.

As I mentioned before, I've seen the film, but I didn't know that massacre was the same as the Sand Creek River. I reviewed "La musica che mi gira intorno" by Mia Matini, the singer gives an excellent interpretation of the piece written by De André. I read that De André was moved when he heard Mia's version.
