Isis Wavering Radiant

I honestly don't feel all the progressive you mention at all. This album is simply much more metal (a tremendously damaging stance, imho), from the guitar geometries to the almost permanently growled vocals. The atmosphere of Panopticon is no longer present; here we have blasts and moments of calm, all very well played but essentially soulless. Comparing it to the latest Neurosis (not that I find many similarities between the two bands), this album falls short in every aspect, but particularly in one: expressiveness. The bursts of pain in the sludge magma of Neurosis's guitars are infinitely more evocative than these uniformly depressed atmospheres devoid of notable thrills. The main flaw of these Isis is that once you’ve processed their style, there’s no interest in reaching the end.

review that looks like the buying guide of a Mondadori catalog..

sincere compliments to the author of the fake Mario Cassini :) anyway, good review Ema, among the ones you mentioned I tried the latest from Cynic (recommended by a friend) and found it a bit cold. But the fact that only the bassist of this band plays more or less the same number of strings as an average group (when summing up the members) doesn’t give me much hope ;)

What does it mean? How do you know that besides being music lovers this isn't a site for bodybuilders?

@supersoul: you're right, but if I don't mention Hunter it's because the best lyrics are solely Dylan's, those of "this dream of you" (where the accordion definitely makes a difference). The others seem reminiscent of Dylan's past records, paradoxically. Then, despite the "luxury" sidemen, the songs were (always) written by Dylan, who through his interpretation shows a noticeable departure from his previous works. This is strictly in my opinion. @blech: the shiny one that’s less muddy than Blue Valentines. Anyway, I still have a lot to listen to from Waits, you remain the master ;) "Man in the Long Black Coat" can be found on "Oh Mercy", or here

ahah blech great video, right? I dedicate a substantial little space to Tom daily, now I'm into the groovy '70s :) Alice and Mule Variations are also great, which I wasn't really fond of before. I think he's "The" songwriter after all. Anyway, Dylan's voice has changed a lot, he even allowed himself a Waitsian kind of vibe (listen to "man in the long black coat").
