Keaton hasn't been 'forgotten': it's just that Chaplin was a 'little' (just a little, eh..) bigger, more universal, poetic, complete, talented.. I like Buster, like 95% of the greats from that golden era, but Chaplin is perhaps among the 3 or 4 most important filmmakers in history: so beloved in the USA that they sent him into Swiss exile for 'McCarthyism', and gave him the consolation of a meaningless Oscar just before he passed away..

@Poletti: sorry, but no way! And Chaplin managed to balance different tempos & registers in the same film like few others.. Do you remember the famous subjective shot in the trench in 'Paths of Glory'? Well, go check out the Chaplin short 'Shoulder Arms' ('Charlot the Soldier') from '18. But that's just one example: Charlie Chaplin was an outstanding author & director (also technically gifted) as well as a 'unique' performer. The comparison of Keaton with the supposed 'evolution of cinema' really doesn't hold up..
