A beautiful 'moral' western, featuring characters in search of an utopian and salvific 'atonement', set against the backdrop of daily emptiness and blindness: the violent border cop Mike Norton would rather kill the Mexican illegals than just beat them todos (in fact..); like a green shirt with Muslims & Tunisians. Dry reception with some 'commonplaces' (like the face of Warren Oates): the clichés that I enjoy are only those revisited by Lynch.

-The ending has an extraordinary epicness of Evil; the killer seems to come from an 'other' dimension, one that does not belong to that desolate land. The rain, the darkness, his imposing figure on horseback: an image of great visual impact, almost as if to mythologize the negativity of the worst West and its Black Man. Who closes the door of the saloon/brothel for the last time.
