No, come on, I scribble, you bring an intimate, deep part to it. Go beyond. There’s a beautiful form of emotionality, a freshness (albeit sought after) and an incredible attention to detail. You know what? Reading your reviews wraps you up. It’s like participating. Then there’s balance, dosage, wisdom. Once I acted like a jerk and gave you a 4 when you deserved a 6. I don’t remember which review. (It was so colorful and professional that my saliva dried up, and I couldn't tell if you were just kidding or if you were really there!)

The easy 5 I don’t like. Reading you, I sense great poetry, strong feelings, but also a bit too much self-satisfaction. The meaning of some of your phrases eludes me, but I see it this way: 1) you have aligned yourself with Monk's doctrine, liberating your instinct 2) you’ve immersed yourself in the role with YOUR personal nuances and, on one hand, you distanced yourself from Monk, while on the other, you made me reflect. In short, it's a bit murky, but is that a virtue or a flaw? You talked about jazz, true, in a new and personal formula, so that’s good, but the more I reread you, the more something escapes me. Sorry.

COLLECTIVE IMAGINARY? what a load of crap! so even "I'll cut you in half" is in the collective imaginary, and it will be even with a dead stallion! you can give any rating you want. I give it 3 stars and that's it, at most 3.5. Then "Harry in Pieces" is incredibly structured, rich, powerful, funny, absurd, surreal, effective, melancholic, FULL. one of the most successful (see reviews, see the thoughts of the actors, audience ratings, and Allen's own analysis) while "Shadows and Fog" is so full of themes that it could spark a discussion lasting 12 hours. This is a comedic and nonsensical film. I love WA and I like this one, and I have it on DVD. If I give this a 3, believe me, there are at least 1500 films (of those I've seen) that are worse. Kisses.

You talk to me about DEBUT. How much does a debut vote count? Allen had something in mind, TRUE, but genius is not a scared twenty-year-old but a seventy-year-old who has had 1 idea a day for 50 years. NO ONE considered him a genius in 1969. Today it’s easy to attribute genius based on the material he proposed and the criticism he received. It’s absurd to give it five, if it were released today, yesterday, or in 1969. There’s no era in which this film can be defined as genius. Sure, it has sharp lines and an appealing form, but even in Bananas there are better ideas. The two films are so close, but already in the second one there’s an ENORMOUS leap in content. Goodness!

IF I gave it 3 stars, I have my reasons. Allen was not, and is not, a slapstick screenwriter but rather a theatrical and television one (very sober). If Allen has proven to be a genius, it certainly was not discovered with this film. The movie is not Allen's but belongs to the editor (Rosenblum); in fact, Allen had cut so many things in the editing phase (renouncing his own work) that he reduced the film to 20 minutes. Allen has always been attributed a comic streak, and this film version is pre-Allenian: at 20, he was worried about criticism and success and was afraid of MAKING MISTAKES, and you can sense it: he wanted to showcase his melodramatic and reflective side, and initially, the producers said "NO thanks," to which he replied, "okay then, I'll rewrite something that suits you, no problem." Today, of course, it is no longer like that, and WA does what he wants. I ask you: do you know Allen's true comedy? this is NOT ALLEN. it is a prototype. And yes, fun is fine, but some laughs certainly feel forced. Reflection is good, but there's little of it here. In short, a decent film. Three stars may seem few, but I have seen more than 20 WA films, and not all of them are content-wise overwhelming.
