You don't read the posts. I said that Portnoy sucks, but at least you recognize it right away. Forgive my arrogance, but for me, Carey is a mediocre drummer. Or quote some passages that are symbolic of his style, go ahead.

Percy, you are right, just like with Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden.

And yet the Queen certainly had the ability to do prog; just listen to "The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" and other delicacies.

Larrok, the drummers you mentioned (some I don't even know) have sounds that are too mainstream and polished to keep up with people like Collins and Bruford (who, despite trends, have always done their own thing and used unusual sounds for typical trends). The only one who still has style in playing is Portnoy; oh my, I don’t like him, he’s cold and mathematical, but when he plays, you can tell right away. Danny Carey is practically a hired gun, playing parts that any other person with that technique could play, but that could also go hand in hand with the coldness and total lack of expressiveness of a band like Tool.

In Relayer, the drums are barely audible, with an "almost '90s" sound that seems to come from kilometers away. On Tales, however, they have a rawer sound, perhaps the best: but I think it was him who wanted that kind of sound on Relayer. Anyway, with the intro of Sound Chaser, the tone changes quite a bit (the toms really shake your ears).

True, Giovanni Natoli gives a real shake-up to the world of modern percussionists. Anyway, jokes aside, I listened to him on a track I found online, and from the humble position of being a part-time percussionist, I must say that Natoli really knows his stuff.

True in the Yes realm, Bruford, while having done a fantastic job, was too cold. White is the DRUMMER of Yes, more epic, symphonic, and varied; I also prefer him. Bruford fits perfectly with the geometric and mathematical music of King Crimson.

Bruford, White, Taylor, Barlow, Collins, they made their debut in the seventies and are still producing music today; it's just a coincidence that they all belong to the same era, as they actually span different decades of good music.

My favorite drummers? Phil Collins (just the name), Barriemore Barlow (underrated, Jethro Tull), Roger Taylor (Queen, the typical example of a drummer you instantly recognize due to that Charleston groove mixed with a powerful snare), and many others, Michi Dei Rossi (a pioneer, Le Orme), Franz di Cioccio (another pioneer, PFM), Bruford (of course), Carl Palmer, Alan White (the second drummer of Yes, hugely underrated, he's actually an amazing drummer, in fact, I place him among my absolute favorites),...

Maureen Tucker is above all modern drummers.
