Ajejebrazorf, why is there a sheen over Canterbury today that hasn't fallen over the real prog? Perhaps because prog had something more to say, it was more original and less of a hassle? Come on, for someone who listens to prog but not exclusively, Genesis are fundamental, not trifles. Wyatt himself is more musically sophisticated and therefore more digestible with longer rhythms. I personally didn't appreciate it straight away (like King Crimson), but over time. Instead, the first note of Selling... was enough to captivate me. If we want to put it this way, the Genesis are a bit like the "pop songwriters" of progressive, but I'm already regretting what I just stated...

The Camels are not Canterbury, you know. Maybe at first, but then they drifted apart.

Good review. MASTERPIECE album (for me, it competes with Selling England By The Pound). In my opinion, in the progressive genre, the Genesis are 45% good: in the end, they were the most successful group (not brainy like King Crimson, not chaotic like Yes, not jinxed like VDGG, not mathematical like Gentle Giant, not showy like EL&P,...). Their music, while challenging, is easily digestible; and not insignificantly, the Genesis know how to create certain atmospheres that many others, even famous ones, have never touched (one example? Yes, a bit too synthetic and cold, even though excellent). Pretazzo, but what are you saying? Canterbury? The Canterbury scene has always been a bit secondary, definitely less successful than true progressive. Now, I don’t hate the Canterbury musicians (or whatever they’re called), quite the opposite, but just putting names like Caravan and Genesis together,... Come on...
