Tornatore is the only one waving the flag of Italian cinema a bit outside our borders. I don't know if you realize (with very rare exceptions) the conditions in which our cinema finds itself. I really liked the film; yes, it stretches a bit, but in the end, it works really well.

It's the worst war movie I've ever seen. But it's a great movie anyway. I want to ask the other users who miserably voted on it to think a bit about what they've done: I've seen some 1s and 2s, stuff that even Joe D'Amato's pornos don't deserve. Reflect, it's a good film, with a lot of morality and less spectacle than it seems. After all, it's a poor film, far from the glory of modern Hollywood, and above all, the epic fights in this film mean something; after all, Rambo is a veteran ruined by war, not some fool who just popped up from the woods.
