Of the first "real" works of Big Country, this album is the only one that didn't really excite me; I found it a bit immature compared to the excellent (?, let's say exceptional) Steeltown. And even The Seer is not just "decent" as you say. In any case, I've always been left wondering whether the sound of the bagpipes was an effect of the guitars or actual bagpipes.

I’ll definitely check out the current account, but I much prefer the pop breakthrough period; albums like Bloodflowers, Kiss-ter, and Disintegration are complete and mature works that I still listen to frequently today. The early albums never excited me; I must have listened to them superficially, but they don’t really spark my interest.
