I agree with the undisputed KING of live performances! (see comment 28 from UHUHPANICOUHUH)... anyway, I don't think he managed to record an album... but I would have bought it!

I agree with you that it’s an album that has ā€œaged well.ā€ For me, this album and the two that followed are equally remarkable. Your brief review is fine (more of an opinion than a review); if you had described the album in more detail, you definitely would have been redundant given the countless reviews available online.
God Is An Astronaut Age Of The Fifth Sun

Honestly, I abandoned this album after the first listen. It reiterates the usual melodies already established with the not-so-brilliant 'autobiographical' predecessor. The musical discourse of "Age of the fifth sun" is repetitive, simplistic, and uninspiring; a rather forced release lacking new ideas unfortunately! I'm really sorry to give such a judgment since I appreciated their first album ("All is Violent All is Bright") as a breath of fresh air in the world of instrumental Post-Rock. New insights and ideas are needed; this is what distinguishes talented bands from the others.

I appreciated your effort in describing the concept of the album and the premise; despite everything, I easily reached the end of the review, unlike many others written by "eminent professors." There is indeed almost a complete lack of a detailed description of the musical part. I haven’t listened to the album yet, even though I’ve always heard good things about it and appreciated the other works of Opeth... perhaps out of fear of being disappointed.

This album is history.... nothing more to say.
And So I Watch You From Afar And So I Watch You From Afar

I discovered them with this album and I don't think they're bad at all. In fact, the idea of surrealism and aggression typical of more extreme metal fused with a "post rock / Math rock" style makes them quite original, even if they do borrow heavily from overused styles. However, the blend isn't bad... it's worth noting that technically they are astounding.
That said, they're not particularly easy to digest.
Nice review!

What are you doing, CLAYPOL?? Are you re-voting the record?

A record that I still don't understand... I'll try to listen to it again, but it doesn't feel very innovative when it rehashes 70s atmospheres. Moreover, the sound of the instruments is really bad, perhaps intentionally dry to evoke the aforementioned retro vibes?? It's also worth noting the very minimal use of effects and virtually no electronic elements, which further convinces me that they aimed to create a '70s-style rock sound. To conclude, there are a few nice tracks on the first listen, but I don't find much imagination compared to the more pompous works of the past. Anyway, well-presented review.

P.S.: on the contrary, I don't think it's an album to avoid... on the contrary!
