Well, it will be as you say, but I like the album just the way it turned out. Then it's normal for De Gregori to arrange and reinterpret the songs as he sees fit during live performances, executing them in a more assertive key. I bought Deregibus's book and I'm reading it all, but I've gotten to Titanic, so I'll read Miramare in a bit!! Anyway, I believe what you say and I wish you happy holidays!!!

Why are the arrangements soft? THIS IS WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK cece65. Songs like BAMBINI VENITE PARVULOS, COSE, CARNE DI PAPPAGALLO, 300000000 DI TOPI have strong arrangements that fit the themes they address!!! De Gregori is not a HARD-ROCK musician; maybe you haven't understood what style he has!!! MIRAMARE and DR. DOBERMANN have a slower, almost circular rhythm, but that’s because they are more reflective and nuanced songs compared to the previous ones, while all the songs in this album have a clear socio-political significance that is very relevant today!!! An exceptional album by an exceptional artist, TARGA TENCO IN 1989 for the best Italian record of the year!!!
Francesco De Gregori Calypsos - 9 canzoni nuove

De Gregori's turning point album, just a year after the other masterpiece PEZZI, is vastly different in inspiration and music from this latest gem centered around love: songs with a minimalist and intimate arrangement like we haven't heard since Terra di nessuno, showcase gems like CARDIOLOGIA, IN ONDA, PER LE STRADE DI ROMA, L'AMORE COMUNQUE above all. DE ANONYMOUS, YOU'RE THE BIGGEST ASSHOLE I'VE EVER HEARD!!! SHAME ON YOU, UGLY DICKHEAD!!

this is yet another masterpiece by De Gregori, in which he analyzes the theme of love and its impact on life with his usual class and elegance. CALYPSOS is musically very different from PEZZI, showcasing the extreme flexibility and versatility of the greatest Italian singer-songwriter OF ALL TIME!! The gems of the album, enveloping, calm, and incisive, are CARDIOLOGIA, featuring a fabulous piano arrangement, IN ONDA, cryptic and evocative, PER LE STRADE DI ROMA, a ruthless and bleak portrait of Rome, and L'AMORE COMUNQUE, with its evocative lyrics. I STRONGLY ADVISE KINETIC NEVER TO WRITE ANYTHING ABOUT FRANCESCO DE GREGORI AGAIN BECAUSE it makes him look bad: it’s clear that HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND A DAMN THING AND HAS SHIT FOR BRAINS. Just go review other pieces of crap like you, come on!!

Dear egebamyasi, I greatly appreciate your thoughts on SPALLE LARGHE, another beautiful song from a wonderful album, of which, in my previous comment for space reasons, I only managed to mention a few of the gems contained within... but I had not forgotten SPALLE LARGHE at all, in which, with a quiet sweetness, De Gregori sings about a man who appears emotionally strong but is ultimately very sensitive, and he does so with very evocative metaphors like the one you mentioned. Thank you, egebamyasi, for the addition.

A record of great intensity and sweetness, full of songs that are challenging in their rhythmic and metric flow. An oblique and disorienting atmosphere envelops IL CANTO DELLE SIRENE, a true masterpiece with its driving rhythm and fascinating lyrics, PILOTA DI GUERRA, inspired by "THE LITTLE PRINCE," PANE E CASTAGNE, exceptional and sorrowful, and MIMI SARA', whose intensity grows with every listen. I MATTI stands out for its musical construction, made of three piano chords and a bass line that makes the addressed theme even more unsettling. IN FACT, this album is one of the least acclaimed by most fans, while it is praised by critics. I like it very much and think it should be defined as a CONCEPT ALBUM about pain, darkness, and the difficulty of everyday living.
