Yet this film has only made me feel so much, so much boredom... Good review.

Hello everyone, beautiful review, precise and exhaustive. Back then, I literally consumed this CD. But you didn't mention my favorites!: Dreaming in Metaphors and If I Could with the magnificent duet Seal-Joni Mitchell.. Anyway, out of all his works, this might be my favorite, aside from the obvious revelation of the debut CD.. Kisses

I have been an admirer of Oldfield since I was 11 years old (!) and I had the pleasure of buying almost all his LPs in real time. This is among my favorites, and I find it to have remarkable complexity that goes hand in hand with its beauty. I consider it a masterpiece of music from that era, and I believe that a work presented and composed as a suite of 4 sides is somewhat reductively analyzed by your brief words. First of all, I would highlight the fact that the record label, by reissuing the original double vinyl in a simple single CD, thought it wise to truncate the duration of the third part, starting it at least 8 minutes later, disrupting the melody and the natural crescendo of the piece. Furthermore, saying that the chorus in the first part is a tribute to the goddess Diana, a folkloric deity from an unspecified culture, and that the 4th part you describe as tedious and boring is actually the closure that fully reprises the theme of the 2nd and encapsulates the themes of the entire album. In short, this album (because it was indeed an album!) along with Tubular Bells, Ommadawn, and Hergest Ridge are the golden peaks of the entire work of our beloved artist and, equally, absolute masterpieces. This one differs from the earlier works due to the orchestral use of instruments (Tubular Bells is the result of Oldfield's personal recordings on an 8-track). For those who are not yet familiar with these works: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? They are an absolute must-have. A fanatic from the Oldfield camp tells you so. Bye!

Great review for a beautiful album by one of my favorite bands. Well done!
For Bigmouth: if you like them, also check out Mogwai and the very Italian YUPPIE FLU, a bit softer compared to their latest work but very, very good.
Bye

Great choice ADP! I truly believe this is my favorite album by Tori, the one that made me fall in love with her and her music at first listen (I heard Silent All These Years once on the radio and the next day I had the CD in my bag, bought sight unseen). The Happy Phantom is actually one of the saddest songs on the album, speaking about how someone fundamental to another person can be forgotten over time once they’re gone. Always cheerful and commercial, our Redhead!! A wonderful album. An absolutely stunning debut!

I'm rereading now: "period of abstinence tori" sounds almost like porn diva... well, that wasn't what I meant!!!

It’s not similar, it’s the SAME! In fact, being in a period of withdrawal crisis Tori due to the transition between the last two albums (Scarlet and Beekeeper), I poured myself into Martin to cope, but just like a junkie turns to methadone in the absence of heroin... do you see what I mean? It works, but it’s definitely not the same thing ;)

ADP, let’s just say that Martin is a small clone of Rossa, a good clone but totally inspired and a copycat of Tori, who—when asked if she identified with this statement made by many—answered: "No, I would say that we make two totally different genres..."... AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! ! It’s pretty much the same, I swear… And of course, being the same, I’ve also taken a lot from her compositions...
