Hey, avant-garde or not, this is a masterpiece with a capital M, no doubts about it. It's fine to give it a 4, but slamming it is too much. Echoes is not a pointless or boring track, for me. Moreover, all the stuff that came before, Interstellar, the squeaking animals, and everything else is undoubtedly great. But the Floyd didn't do much wrong until '80.

In the meantime, thank you all for the comments, I'm flattered. @telespallabob: by "Icelandic litanies" I meant all those pieces that obsessively repeat short phrases in Icelandic (the "parentesato" album is full of them); the fact is that I love them just the same. De gustibus

Ah, "sto" and "sti" do not have an accent (heaven forbid) but rather an apostrophe in front. And only if it's necessary, not to be used every 3 minutes.

A beautiful album, but unlike many Mars Volta fans (of which I admit to being one, quite intensely too), I find the first two works to be the least explosive despite being creative. For me, Amputechture (still imperfect) and The Bedlam In Goliath (wonder of wonders) are a step above. All are still valid CDs, not easy for a band today. A great group, this album is still nice, but Frances The Mute is even better.
