noooo the great Richard Benson!!! I only know this group by reputation. Who knows, it would be interesting to listen to it and compare it to songs like "madre tortura" :D

of the musical instruments I prefer. And I repeat, I like My Dying Bride (even if certainly not excessively), so I could never be offensive towards them.

But indeed, you’re doing everything yourself. I don't seem to have said that violins can't be devastating, nor that this Powell isn't a genius... I simply pointed out that, unlike other bands of the same genre, MDB also uses keyboards, violins, clean vocals, an explanation completely unrelated to that "finocchi" comment made earlier. I didn’t say "they're a bit more romantic and finocchi (in a good way), BECAUSE THEY PLAY VIOLINS, KEYBOARDS..." You completely misunderstood, especially since the violin is one of my favorite musical instruments. As for the use of that adjective... emmadonna che palle, just take yourself and me a little less seriously. And for God's sake, I was joking, and you come back with talks about stereotypes and blablabla.

Well, I didn't mean sappy :D but in comparison to the Cathedral's "Forest of Equilibrium," their canonical albums (neither too extreme nor too mellow) make them seem like a little pop group. Don't get me wrong, I like My Dying Bride, and "The Angel and the Dark River" is a pretty good album, but "Forest of Equilibrium" is truly shocking! Honestly, I don't know how we got to this ridiculous comparison: it doesn't really hold up. Oh right, when I mentioned Beauty and the Beast! :D

...while I discourage anything of that sort with a too prominent female voice! personal tastes! Just to get back to funeral doom and give an example, when I listened to an album by Funeral (yes, that’s their actual name!) some time ago, with a lady who kept singing and saying nonsense, I got pretty annoyed, while I genuinely enjoyed other albums in the same genre. It might have been an unfortunate coincidence... who knows?

So, the modern Anathema and Katatonia (that is, those from the albums mentioned by OleEinar, "Alternative 4," "Tonight's Decision," etc.) are a kind of gothic-alternative rock or whatever, I’ve never been great at definitions. The ones I was referring to, though (because I was talking about doom, not anything else!) are indeed doom, Katatonia's "Dance of December Souls" and "Brave Murder Day" (absolutely beautiful) sung in growl by His Majesty Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth, Anathema's "Serenades" and "The Silent Enigma," plus the EPs. My Dying Bride, on the other hand, are a bit more romantic and a bit softer (in a good way), with violins, clean vocals from time to time, keyboards, and stuff like that. If My Dying Bride are the beauty, Cathedral are the beast, even though they don’t really fit in... but they still fall under doom, let’s say. Get their classic "Forest of Equilibrium" and listen to that punch in the stomach... frankly, it’s a bit too much for me; in fact, I don’t love them to death, but the frontman, Lee Dorrian, is a guy to be respected, he sang with Napalm Death and collaborated with the aforementioned Paolo Catena.

I'm not really a fan of Candlemass. To OleEinar, if he's really new to the genre, I would recommend the classics like the early Anathema and the early Katatonia, the already mentioned My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, and for something a bit heavier, Cathedral! If you want to stay in Italy, you could listen to Paolo Catena and just a bit of the contaminated doom from Novembre. Well, I wasn't original at all, I just mentioned the usual names! Sorry :D

Good job, Ozzy, and thanks for this, because you were the one who got me closer to funeral (I still really like DoomVS and Shape of Despair!). On the other hand, Horizons' comment is so frustrating...

However, maybe you could skip a few sections... I mean, you made an incredible introduction just to say that Rice's music transports you to certain situations, to certain periods. You take a few too many flights of fancy :D
