The difference lies precisely in the fact that that video served to replace, from that moment on, the song Bohemian Rhapsody. That is, from that moment on I believe that the Queen never performed Bohemian Rhapsody in a television broadcast again but always showed that video instead. I don't think the same can be said for any other previous video. It was a music video in the modern sense of the MTv video. Perhaps now I have explained myself better.

I don't know. I wasn't born at that time. And anyway, trust me that if we're talking about promotional videos, it surely wasn't your Pink Floyd who were the first.

I mean, as I read somewhere but now I can't remember where, that video there is the first concept video because it was conceived to be broadcast on Top Of The Pops, without the group's live performance. While the other videos were just simple promotional videos, like many that have existed; I even remember one for Break On Through by the Doors. And they didn't have that intention. I repeat that the record, although silly, useless, and moreover counterproductive since it gave way to things like MTV, is precisely this, and it's from these guys. Then whether you want to offend the 3 that are left or the 2 that are left, or all 4 or just 1 or 1 yes and 1 no, or the record label, I couldn't care less; I listen to other things and live happily like that.

But no one is saying that Queen made the first promotional video, which would be nonsense, but that they made the first concept video. In the sense that it was created precisely because of the impossibility of being physically present in the broadcast. The videos you mention were made and thought of as promotional videos, and they may have also been aired, but the nuance is precisely that of the concept video.

Dave: were they recorded or were they aired? Because the credit, albeit ridiculous, is precisely this.

Before this, it was the bands themselves performing live, and the videos you mentioned were never aired on a TV channel; rather, the songs were performed by the artists (think Ed Sullivan Show, to clarify). Also, the few music programs that existed at the time only featured this format. Whether or not you want to accept it is entirely your own issue; I don't even like Queen, but this is the history, and it doesn't change based on musical tastes.

I don't know EMI's accounts, at most I knew about Inter's. Anyway, the story is old, and I had posted it earlier. It goes more or less like this: it was the first video that was made to be shown on television instead of the band in person. It was born from the fact that Queen couldn't attend Top Of The Pops due to some physical ailment of Mercury, so they made this video. In 1975 it was indeed broadcasted by Top Of The Pops without the band's actual presence.

About the fact that it totally sucks, I think we all agree.

Black Dog, look, Bohemian Rhapsody is considered by everyone as the first concept video, it's not something I made up. It's not about defending or not defending. It is what it is. Get used to it. The videos you mentioned are very beautiful, but do you happen to know when they aired on a television channel?
