Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Listen to me easy, until a little while ago I was into classic and soft rock, a bit like you are now. I listened to Queen, Creedence, The Police, The Who, R.E.M., The Beatles, etc., and also a bit of Pink Floyd and Roger Waters. For heaven's sake, they create beautiful things and can actually play. Then I started listening to metal, and since I listen to all the arrangements and not just the vocals like a lot of people who don't know shit about music; I realized that metal is the most elaborate genre. Given that I prefer catchy stuff to listen to and at the same time with complex accompaniments, I've leaned towards lighter metal (Progressive/Power). Being used to listening to metal, everything else seems too simple to me, a joke, including classic rock. This is my musical idea; if you don't agree, that's your problem.

easy dear easy if for you technique doesn’t mean a damn thing you prefer those little groups that make commercial music because they come up with beautiful melodies but they make those SCANDALOUS arrangements that I would play beautifully with four fingers up the ass????!!!!

Listen dear DOWN, I know very well that Moore left the group a while ago. If you noticed above, I wrote it. Do you want to know why he left? He left to dedicate himself to personal music interests; I know he made a CD where, in addition to playing the keyboard, he sings and plays the bass. Is that enough for you??? Don't make me look like an idiot. It’s absolutely true that metr. 2 is a CD to live with and listen to all together, and I’m the first to say it. I just wanted to say that, in my opinion, Trough her Eyes is the most poignant and touching song on the album.

To write well, you must write well, but the review is a bit mediocre; for example, you didn't even mention the name of one song. Even though I'm a diehard fan of DT, this album just didn’t convince me 100%; the technique is always there, but here they’re pushing too hard, they’ve gone heavy, it almost sounds thrash (I don’t remember how to spell it!!!). I don’t agree with your conclusion about Labrie being at ease; a voice like his shouldn’t be accompanied by such heavy backing.

Last note: You say that DT fans are mediocre, etc...? It's more than logical that people who adore this legendary group get pissed off when reading your heresies that come from the deep pit of your ignorance, right? Or do you now expect to win against the laws of gravity? Come on, easy, seriously speaking, you wrote this review 5 months ago and even today there are people who can’t help but tell you to fuck off. Aren't you tired? Or is the anonymous commenter from August 27 right in saying that you're a masochist and you like being called an idiot? Good thing you call yourself easycure; they should call you HARDCURE, because it's really tough to treat your physical and mental shortcomings.

I wanted to tell you that all you've done is mess with these 5 aliens who play music. Myung, even if he's a yellow face on bass, is a god (have you heard the solo in Dance for Eternity?). As for Petrucci, he's the best guitarist in the world, no arguments about that. Moore is a keyboardist with technique but also with a massive soul, and don’t touch him because he's my personal idol (besides the fact that he didn't play in Metropolis 2, but many have already told you that). Portnoy is a killer drummer, smashing it hard enough to break his sticks and rip apart the skins, and when it comes to lighter songs, he knows how to hold back. Lastly, Labrie is not just any singer; he has a beautiful voice both in terms of range and timbre. You’ll sing better with your drum set shot up your ass sideways (which will probably be two pieces at most).

While reading the comments above, I realized that you made a different kind of review compared to the usual "it's nice, it's a 5, it's a 4," but a review that criticizes the group. For heaven's sake, it's true, it's a particular review that has sparked debates. But at least do you realize which group you chose for this stupid "experiment"?! You chose THE BEST GROUP IN THE WORLD FOR TECHNIQUE, a group capable of writing lyrics endowed with a poetic quality that goes beyond every boundary, a group that creates beautiful and catchy melodies, and for the most part, ORIGINAL ones. But above all, a group capable of composing songs that GIVE YOU GOOSEBUMPS FROM THE TOENAIL TO THE LAST HAIR. Could you have chosen some other lesser-known group instead??? If the songs from DT don't give you any feelings, that's your problem!!!!!

Forgive me, your omnipotence, if I made a mistake in writing the I. The point about the slice is to say that the DTs are famous, they make beautiful songs, they hold the title of "best group for technique in the world" (but I already know you don't care) etc... Just to tell you, I can't stand those who nitpick grammar instead of understanding the concept that wants to be expressed. You say my comments are ridiculous? At least I make people laugh, you just make them lose their cool.

Great CLiff! I liked your initial rant about metal and I can relate. Oh my god, what an album!!! What technique! They scare the hell out of me! Megadeth is just incredible. Just to be picky, in Hangar 18 (what a track!!!) it seems to me that for the solos, Dave and Marty alternate a bit, it’s not just the latter. I won’t give you 5 because when I saw that photo on your personal page I felt like taking that stupid trophy and putting it in your house instead of the bathroom!!! Anyway, great review and awesome album!!!
