Sheryl Crow Home for Christmas

Well... These operations leave me perplexed too. Beyond the marketing talk, I can't stand that with the arrival of Christmas, hundreds of singers start acting all nice and good. Honestly, I can smell the stench of do-goodism and consumerism coming from here as well.
Dire Straits Communiquè

But how?! You talk about Communiquè and you don't even mention one of the most beautiful tracks, the concluding, seductive Follow Me Home?! Ouch ouch :-) Anyway, to be completely honest, I preferred the other review, the one for the self-titled album. Communiquè is a nice record, not as good as its predecessor, but still commendable. Songs like News and Where Do You Think You're Going speak for themselves.

I also think Sultans Of Swing is not the best on the album; that honor goes to Water Of Love, in my opinion. However, it is the catchiest (just like Smoke On The Water for the Purple, which is far from being their best song, and Satisfaction for the Stones). I don’t listen to Dire Straits as much as I used to. However, I still have a soft spot for their first three albums, especially this one.
Tony Martin Back Where I Belong

I don't consider the musicians who came along in the '80s as mere rookies, and I'll tell you that I don't even mind Dehumanizer... It's just that the lineups from the '80s were simply respectable hard rock bands, which, unlike others, had a member of the historical Sabs in their ranks and were therefore deemed worthy of the name by default (something I find unjust, and it seems even the directly involved understood this, albeit late, given that the recent reunion of Iommi-Butler-Dio-Appice was rebranded as Heaven & Hell). Anyway, this issue of names is a limitation of mine, I know. Just to make it clear, I don't think even the Nomadi should still call themselves that...

@Fredo. I disagree; not all formations deserve recognition, and certainly none compare to the first, the historic one. As Rage says, "if Sabbath had to change their name every time a singer changed, we would now be talking about a dozen bands, most of which would be forgettable, and not about a legend." For this reason, the majority of the fleeting formations that have claimed the name Black Sabbath are not worthy of it. So, dear Starblazer, to continue with your comparison to the rose, in a flower shop, they sell both real flowers and paper flowers, yet it is the real rose that has the fragrance, not the paper rose, even if they share the same name.

Nice review (I don't know the album, but I'm not sure if I'll listen to it because AOR isn't really my thing). However, even though we're talking about Tony Martin, I would like to say a few words about the Sabs issue, as I see from the comments that many users are quite lenient in considering "Black Sabbath" everything that has come out under this moniker. I respect everyone's opinions, but I believe that after Dio's departure, they should have changed the name. Well, okay, a lineup change is normal, but after that, enough: at a certain point, the only member left from the original lineup was Tony Iommi! Therefore, I think that when we talk about "Black Sabbath" and we're not referring to the first decade (the one with Ozzy and, if you like, also R.J. Dio), it's simply a matter of circumstances. And I also believe that many have quite miserably wallowed in the "Black Sabbath" myth.

What a terrible job being a singer-songwriter, right... Especially these days, when someone like Pierdavide Carone is considered a singer-songwriter.

It’s true, we’re all intolerant; I too am anti-anti-Semitic... I’m sorry that I don’t feel sorry at all for being so.
Shakira Live @ Torino 27 Nov 2010

Ah, so now Shakira is a refined singer-songwriter in disguise and the image people have of her (which she herself has reinforced over time) as the "queen of pop" is wrong... Please! She's hot and she's also good at what she does: namely, chart-topping pop, commercial music. Let's not try to present her as the heir to Joni Mitchell just to justify our less... "serious" tastes! Do we like her? That's fine, nothing to be ashamed of, but let's not try to climb up the mirrors attributing false merits to her. I repeat: she does well what she does, she’s part of the easy listening world and she fits in perfectly. But singer-songwriter music is a whole other thing.
