Layne has been somewhat sidelined in this album because his issues with heroin had physically weakened him quite a bit. This is explained by the numerous vocal overdubs that often involve the good Cantrell. Trite review. The cheerful chorus of Grind?! Well, where and when, I don't know.

Starting to impress again? Well, I don't know when they ever did. The only song of theirs I've heard is Come Clean, which I listened to back in the day and wasn't that excited about; who knows if they're still making that kind of stuff. I remember that in Come Clean there were parts where Scantlin blatantly imitated Cobain, at times it felt like listening to In Utero. Not coincidentally, the song I liked the most was Control, the one that had the least to do with Nirvana. 1994 wasn't peak grunge era; if anything, grunge was starting to lose steam. You can't blame Puddle Of Mudd for that, as they were very young in '94, and their passion for Seattle rock still seems genuine, but they have never been, and aren't, transcendent. They made a few nice songs, but in the end, they are just a faded copy of any grunge band.

I instead find that Le Orme are more similar to Van Der Graaf, while PFM is closer to Gentle Giant, as well as to Crimson. It is no coincidence that the English lyrics of Felona e Sorona were written by Peter Hammill, and then we take La Porta Chiusa: there are parts copied verbatim from Man-Erg. As for the review, I agree with most of the comments: a bland mishmash of big words and phrases that seem meant to be impactful, but in reality, do not impress at all. A remarkable album, it's a shame about the sometimes slightly excessive resemblance to the unbeatable debut (the title track is identical to Epitaph).

I’m part of the 20%. Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, the album in question... Just these three albums are enough to surpass the entire discography of the Beatles. Of course, I’m also considering taste, but the things I like about the Beatles can be counted on the fingers of one hand, and there are still some left over. Not so with the Rolling Stones. The Scarafaggi-Pietre Rotolanti debate might be tiresome, but I’ll still share my opinion and forever quote the latter.

@senmayan: you really never understood the Incubus-Red Hot connection? I'm not saying they're a copy of the Peppers, but Incubus has always drawn inspiration from them, and I can hear it. Hilikus for example, one of their early songs, doesn’t that say anything to you about it? Rather, I don’t understand the comparison with tokio hotel (note that I wrote their name in lowercase, as a sign of disrespect). To be honest, Love Hurts reminds me of the Red Hot as well, but the recent ones, the sweeter and more bland ones.

To average it out, the disc is 2.5. Anyway, learn to use punctuation.

"Congeniato"??? Anyway, I'm not that enthusiastic about the new Incubus either. I mean, they're not unpleasant, but they're so polished, sometimes even syrupy. At times, it feels like listening to the recent Red Hot.

@s4doll Oh my God, defining her "great voice" is too much (in my opinion)! A decent voice, I’d even say good, but if we call it "great," then what can we say about Beyoncé or Alicia Keys? Two singers that I personally don't like stylistically, but who rightfully deserve such a compliment. I agree with part of the comments: if she used her potential, something at least respectable could come out of it. But she remains a whore, not just sexually, but also artistically, being so devoted to trash, easy money, and gossip magazines.

The review started off well, too bad about the track by track, a technique I’ve used in the past but have come to realize is heavy and often unnecessary. Not bad anyway. Peter Buck said of this album: "I consider it one of our best works. Very rich, on the verge of excess, with strings, overdubbed guitars, and a ton of arrangements. Superluxe." Well, good for them... Personally, I almost prefer the next one, nothing special, but at least it's not so over-arranged and orchestrated to the point of being cloying!
