Mastodon and Carnage haven't taken anything from punk because they lean heavily on technicality, which punk finds repulsive. They've drawn more from death and prog. Mastodon is very progressive, especially their first Lifesblood, and considering that by the end of the '70s prog and punk were running parallel but quite distant, I'd say Mastodon has nothing to do with punk at all. Moreover, Brann Dailor sucks off Maiden all day and leaves in shoes like mine; how can he possibly like punk?
