Goldfrapp Head First
Voto:
"How can you dismiss Alison Goldfrapp?" You don't dismiss her. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of her best performances. She has fully captured the dreamy atmospheres of certain 80s music.
Jane Campion Ritratto Di Signora

Nice movie but too fast. If we read the book beforehand, the sense of rush is even more palpable.
Anne Rice Intervista col vampiro
Voto:
"A forced and overly human sentimentality where the vampire should be a dark and diabolical creature, aiming to destroy our certainties and destabilize the well-meaning."
In other words, a vampire described always as an object, as a nightmare, a villain but never as a subject. Anne Rice wrote a vampire novel from one of their perspectives. It was by no means a given at the time.
Rihanna Talk That Talk
Voto:
Rihanna is really over the top, even if we stay within the realm of pop. She completely lacks creativity like her colleague Lady Gaga, or the technical skills of Christina Aguilera, just to name a few. Moreover, her outfits are embarrassing. Not sexy at all, even though that would be her goal. She looks like a woman imitating a trans.
Bruce Springsteen Wrecking Ball

Still the cloying sound of "working on a dream" and the usual democratic propaganda in view of the presidential elections.

I'll comment again. I would have liked to write a review of Mdna as well, but Darius hit the nail on the head. After several listens, the album proves to be of excellent craftsmanship IF, and I repeat, IF we consider the current pop music market, which is extremely derivative. Madonna manages to ride dance-oriented songs with an unreachable lightness, an euphoria that I can't find elsewhere. Similarly, she manages to close the album with 2 top-notch ballads where she showcases her great ability to refine melodies. The arrangements in "falling free" are particularly remarkable, where, if the credits didn't contradict me, you can almost sense Brian Eno's touch.
So, it's a nice album, but considering Madonna's discography, we want more originality, not just a display of style. It lacks the feeling of being faced with a great achievement like "confessions on a dancefloor," even though the result is very good.

From what little I've heard, it sounds promising. I'm looking forward to listening to it in its entirety. Surely Madonna should shift towards musical territories more suited to her age. She managed to do so at the "venerable" age of 40 with Ray of Light and the subsequent Music. Let’s hope menopause brings her wisdom.
Lana Del Rey Born To Die
Voto:
The sound of the 50s was also very recognizable, just like in the 60s and 70s. Just listen to a shoebox-like drum to pinpoint a track from the early 60s.
Aside from that, I think Lana Del Rey's album is more than good. Fake to the core, sure, but I don't see that as a problem because you can still feel Lana's hand in the songwriting. She’s not just a simple vocalist, even though it must be said that the production is a bit overwhelming. Many songs, like "million dollar man," stripped of keyboards and samples, and perhaps with a more jazz arrangement, would have much more charm.
The previous album, released under the name Lizzy Grant, actually reveals a less contrived sound, where Lana's retro imagery develops at its best.
Whitney Houston Whitney
Voto:
Great voice but rarely has she had songwriters who are up to par. Still staying within the same pop-melodic genre, I find Mariah Carey (especially in the 90s) or Celine Dion much more interesting, who, despite never having written a note, has always worked with creative authors who soon moved on from ballads arranged solely with keyboards.
Anthony Minghella The English Patient
Voto:
One of the few instances where the film surpasses the book.
