Mariah Carey Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse
Voto:
How much Photoshop on the cover. The real Mariah Carey is the one behind that representation.
Tori Amos Unrepentant Geraldines
Voto:
An album rich in piano and voice tracks (or almost), without the coldness of "night of hunters". No political-social sermons like in American Doll Posse or overly muffled atmospheres like in Abnormally Attracted to Sin. Cutting a couple of songs would have greatly benefited the album, but just a couple. Monumental "oysters", it's worth the purchase for its disarming simplicity and the pathos conveyed by the voice.
Within Temptation Hydra
Voto:
Power metal? I really don't sense it in this album, which I would instead define as pop-metal tinged with (few) symphonic elements. However, I consider it yet another example of Within Temptation's professionalism. There is passion, of course, in their music, but above all, there is technique and meticulous attention to detail.
Britney Spears Britney Jean
Voto:
With "work bitch," Britney has forged the trashpop song I've been waiting for years.
Lady Gaga Artpop
Voto:
More cohesive and polished compared to Born This Way. A gritty pop sound, extremely artificial, at times dirty but always hyper-curated. Lady Gaga is an embodiment of camp and postmodern aesthetics, and for this reason, she plays on the thin line that separates trash from artistic inspiration. Genius or idiot, depending on the perspective, much like the intellectual horizon she draws from. A thinking head or a grand bluff. I lean towards the former.
Cher Closer To The Truth
Voto:
In the beginning there was "confessions on a dancefloor" by Madonna, then pop (but not only) increasingly shifted towards a dance drift that is reaching its culmination (or exhaustion). A global blackout is hoped for, one that prevents the use of any synthesizer for the next 10 years.
Madonna Mdna World Tour
Voto:
Seen live in Florence. An authentic stage animal. Fantastic surrounded by all the trappings of choreography and equally engaging completely, or almost alone, accompanied by a guitar, while singing "masterpiece."
Goldfrapp Tales Of Us
Voto:
Sublime. This time they have outdone themselves.
Lady Gaga Applause
Voto:
"has some new sounds"
Really? It seems to me that Lady Gaga is getting lost in an electronic whirlpool with no return, and along with her, much of contemporary pop (and not just that).
It's a very catchy track, but at its core, it's just a mixed and scratched beat.
Sarah Brightman Dreamchaser
Voto:
Stunning album. It captures the sounds of the Moon, but enriches them with some futuristic nuances, in line with the space journey that Sarah Brightman will undertake. Listening to certain tracks like Eperdu or Song of India, it feels like floating in zero gravity. Sublime.
