Italo Svevo La Coscienza Di Zeno
Voto:
A book that, even though I am familiar with the main Freudian theories, bored me like few others have been able to do.
Tim Burton Sweeney Todd

I found the soundtrack of this film quite dull and monotonous, even though it is a musical, but I was surprised in many other aspects. Above all, I was struck by the fact that it starts as a sort of horror comedy and ends in tragedy. The gothic and horror elements at the beginning are presented in a very ironic and playful way, but towards the end of the film, the atmosphere becomes really heavy. A surprising evolution.
Robbie Williams Reality Killed The Video Star

A character that I've never liked. Contradictory, pathetic, and whiny. Musically, he makes a pop-rock that lacks ideas. Moreover, he seems 10 years older than he actually is.
Terry Gilliam Parnassus - L'Uomo Che Voleva Ingannare Il Diavolo
Voto:
Useless. Essentially, a sequence of hallucinogenic images with no apparent meaning, adorned with gratuitous special effects. The story feels very contrived, especially towards the end. Even the pseudo-mystical nuances regarding the identity of Parnassus lack coherence. The only beautiful thing was the splendor of Lily Cole, even more radiant in that magnificent scene where she dances among shards of mirrors wearing a Valentino red dress (it almost looked like a commercial, it was so glossy).
Mary Shelley Frankenstein

I have never had the chance to read it, but I need to make up for that. However, I have read Shelley’s "The Last Man," practically the forerunner of the catastrophic/apocalyptic genre.
Michael Jackson Off The Wall
Voto:
If the media frenzy surrounding Michael Jackson annoys you, turn off the TV, ignore the news online, and switch off the radio when they talk about him. Simple, right? In any case, I consider him a great artist, one I haven't followed particularly closely, but whose undeniable talent I acknowledge.

Because there are certain sounds that I just can't stand. But I would refrain from negatively criticizing the review of a CD of Neapolitan music, because it would be a completely unwarranted critique.

These are words used to better name what we are talking about. For example, if I read that a song is influenced by "musica partenopea" or "salsa," I steer clear of it. If we use these labels as barricades, that’s another story.

Pop-rock seemed like the most useful label to describe a song with a very catchy melody, so we can say pop, and an arrangement that gives the impression of rock, with electric guitars and drums. We could also call this "genre" fake rock, but pop-rock conveys the idea of blending.
