Living Colour Live Hiroshima Mon Amour, Torino 18/11/2009

Look, I think I know Hiroshima very well as a local, and I believe it’s definitely not << by now a fixed point of alternative music in Turin >>... rather, it's been a stable point of the radical chic alternative scene in Turin for years. They do have nice concerts (like this one I missed), but even then, it's a lot of very trendy people, like Julie's Haircut (whom I really liked, by the way) or Giardini di Mirò. This year, the program is much better anyway; last season was just dub or reggae (with some pretty awful bands, by the way). I have a soft spot for Hiroshima because I've seen some great shows there, but when it comes to ā€œalternativeā€ stuff (such an awful term), seriously, I think Space 211 beats them by a long shot. Nice review :-)

I only have Witchcult today, which is one of my favorite listens. But apparently, in the past, they were more psychedelic... I’ll have to get something else from them.

what a great review, Andre... as I read it, I imagine everything, so evocative. And then the final sentence, ehhhhh...

Well, gmetti, I've never met the Capo personally, and I have no idea what kind of person he is. Artistically, I really like him; he writes very sincere and communicative lyrics. However, in interviews, he gives me the impression of believing too much in what he does... I mean, it seems like he takes on the responsibility, as a musician, to change the country, as if that could be done with an album. What he says about current events is absolutely valid, but I believe that it's neither beautiful nor right to use music as a means to "do politics."

Capovilla Baudelaire of our days? Oh my goodness!

Ale is right anyway; it seems to me that period was one of the worst they've ever gone through, even among themselves they were completely disconnected. However, although it remains an isolated episode (the other concerts from that time are nothing like this one), Reading is my favorite live of theirs (of those I've seen-heard, of course).

It's true that the quality leaves something to be desired, but isn't it perhaps more "sincere"? :-D Maybe I should buy it for myself?

The most beautiful live performance by Nirvana, with Kurt in a hospital gown. I should add that I don't understand why there's talk of commercial operation, a cheesy and hypocritical product, or things like that... I mean, the DVD is very basic, it doesn't have any extra content or added special effects (like color variations in black and white), and inside the case, there isn't even a notable booklet: just the setlist of the songs and that’s it. Maybe you have a different edition, but I bought mine about a year and a half ago and it's just as I've described.

It's true, Ale, concerts with a few people are always the best. No assholes making a ruckus and ignoring the music. There’s that reverence that should be the essence of every live show. I saw Springsteen at the stadium, and I thought he was fantastic. But if they were to erase my memories from my brain, I would do much more to save my first Dinosaur concert.
