It's a shame because the beginning is beautiful.

The best album by Neil Young, I've known it for a little while but damn, I get chills when I put it on...

I completely agree with Blecht... @azzo, I didn't expect anything different from the first one, but at least an album that was as good as the first, with equally evocative imagery... I even tried to approach it from the perspective of "what if this was the first time I'm listening to it," and no, it doesn't work, I'd still be disappointed in that case too. Come on, the lyrics are utterly inconclusive; hearing him sing "we are women, we are women beyond the burqa and the skirts" made me feel unwell. Then he really sings as if he's in a hurry, and if it weren't for all these arrangements (which are very well done, to be fair) surrounding it, like I said before, everything would fall apart. I'm really sorry, believe me, because I love "canzoni da spiaggia deturpata," maybe it's even a masterpiece "objectively," but this one isn't. From love in times of etc... it really becomes truly awful.

<< As if making three-chord songs were a crime. The chords don’t matter, dear Hardrock92 >> A crime? Goodness, I have nothing against three-chord songs, rather with HIS three-chord songs... which worked fabulously in the first one, but here, no, just check the guitar accompaniment; you might like it, but it’s so repetitive it’s frightening... the only nice thing about the album is the atmosphere, just that, because if you take away the various arrangements from the pieces, nothing stands on its own... I loved Vasco and I still love "canzoni da spiaggia deturpata," but this ciddì is a total flop. It doesn’t even sound like him, it’s like if I picked up a guitar and said: hey, let’s make a Brondi-style album. It’s nothing.

Pitiful review, that recommended songs section you put at the end is annoying. The album is of abysmal mediocrity; Canzoni da spiaggia deturpata was something new in Italian singer-songwriter music and I like it a lot. But this, god what ugliness, after hearing the "single" cara catastrofe I thought: nice piece, as a single it's perfect, nothing exceptional, but it was fine as an appetizer. Then I heard the whole album and discovered that that cara catastrofe is actually still one of the best tracks along with quando tornerai dall'estero and una guerra fredda. The rest I'm sorry, but it's unbearable, the whole thing just doesn’t work: lyrics that go nowhere, reused and overused images. And then someone should tell him to learn a few more guitar chords. This is just not it.

At first, I didn't really like the album, especially certain sung parts that were annoyingly stellar; in a genre like the one they proposed, I don't find the voice an essential element. However, they had intrigued me in general, so I will definitely give this a listen :D

To be honest, one thing must be said, though: AB III is certainly a better product than 90% of the rock that’s out there these days. Alright then...

<< The experimentation. It's almost completely absent. Excluding the opener and the closer ("Words Darker Than Their Wings"), "nothing new on the Western front." The structure of the songs is always similar to itself, they don't dare anything bold. >> Damn, you say it as if they had experimented with who knows what on the other albums xD. Anyway, they've always been on point.
