As Hope Dies Legions Bow To A Faceless God

My nose hasn’t just become crooked; it has completely curled up.
I know the band and I appreciate them a lot, but they’ve never really excited me due to what I see as their too constant proximity to In Flames (it’s not blasphemy, but I believe that the Flames have now turned into nothing more than an operetta band. And this has been true since Clayman onward).
If only they would show a little less "closeness" and a bit more feeling, then they could compete with the sacred monsters of Swedish metal, but unfortunately, they are quite far from that.
And also, damn it, don’t defame the EToS! :-))

Even though I don’t listen to Black Metal per se, and therefore don’t really understand it (or almost), your review intrigued me. I got the CD, and I have to say you’re honest when you say it sounds damn sinister; it’s more a journey of "emotions" and sensations than a flow of notes that may appear dissonant. So, while I’m not in love with it, I commend you for introducing me to this artist.

Ozzy is no longer the "Madman" who dressed up as a wolf and unleashed adrenaline upon adrenaline at his concerts. But it must be said, he is still Ozzy and no one else. Sure, he has aged, lost his marbles, and maybe even become a bit pathetic, but hearing him sing "No More Tears" or "Mr. Crowley" always gives you chills.
Good. You’re off to a good start.

I have the necessary years to not tolerate intrusive kids. What is known about me is already enough, and more than I want to let on. That should be enough.

Reading the review (I've read another ten of the same album, maybe it's time to cut it out?), I was reminded of that night this summer when, caught up in delusions of omnipotence, I downed a couple of bottles of Negramaro, drank a couple of coffees, and even rolled a couple of joints. In the end, I could hardly stand, but on the media player, "The dark..." was playing absentmindedly, and the result was that I spent half the night having obscure and repressed astral trips, throwing my reputation and dignity to the wind, and the other half trying to figure out how the hell long this album was, which seemed to me infinite. Incidents along the way.

And still I find myself sharing what you write. Hundreds of times I’ve sent "Love Crimes" back during those nights on the road, in the car. Simply sublime. Supported by a structure I like to call "tribal" and "Latin," with Ribeiro's singing that, in terms of lyricism and charm, is second to none. Well done.

Rereading my review of Shape of Despair, I also noticed your comment suggesting we share similar musical tastes. Well, my friend (forgive the familiarity, but I consider the title necessary), you are not just right, but a hundred times right.
And you are even more so when you write about a band that I love dearly, which, just by mentioning it, buries beneath six feet of earth and mud 85% of the other melodic Death bands around. For me too, this is the album of the year for this 2006 that is coming to an end, and I must say that, despite listening to dozens of other groups during this time, "The Diarist" always stands out at the top of my day. Congratulations again.
Borknagar The Archaic Course

Singing in Scream is never the same as singing in Growl. The former is a typically "Black Metal" attitude and akin styles, although many bands of different genres have adopted it (such as: Ensiferum, Carcass in their latest iteration, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, etc.), while "Growl" is characterized by a guttural sound, in low and deep tones, much like the growl of a bear (from which the word derives), and is typical of numerous Death/Thrash bands. Examples? Opeth, Bloodbath, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, etc.
As for Borknagar, the vocals have always been influenced by "Scream," derived from Black Metal, even in the less "orthodox" episodes, which is the root of the band's sound. Specifically, ICS Vortex, in this work, uses very little Scream, focusing more on remarkable high notes and epic melodiousness.

I give this album a passing grade, which I own because it was a gift, solely because it's performed by Arcturus and therefore, if I didn't, I would be committing a mortal sin. But for the rest...
Emperor Scattered Ashes: A decade Of Emperial Wrath
Voto:
Even though I don't listen to Emperor, I agree with the reviewer. It would frustrate me if, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of any of my favorite bands, I were served an unnecessary best of collection of material I already own. However, it's known that speculation knows no bounds, so....
