I’m going off memory and if I’m not mistaken, perhaps this was one of the songs from Mother Courage and Her Children, I should check ... actually, maybe this is a good opportunity to reread the play, these are bitter times. Of course, it’s possible to frame them this way, which is why it makes me laugh to hear "Mack the Knife" used as a jingle in advertising, just to give an example of current incongruity. Dessau collaborated with Brecht, but he has remained a bit in the shadows compared to Weill, perhaps because he’s less “popular” (that’s more of a question I have). As for Teresa Stratas, I like her for this very reason, perhaps because I don’t see in her voice a reason for the “nobility” of Brecht/Weill's populism. Bye.
