You were right, from the samples this album seems to really interest me, and a lot, I like the retro feeling (if that’s the right way to say it) that listening to it is leaving me with; plus, it seems really very diverse. thx

Great album by an incredible artist that sooner or later had to be mentioned here. I do not have the Real World edition but rather the Universal one released in 2005, which has the advantage of featuring three additional tracks compared to the original, as well as a better cover than that of Real. The subtitle of the album is "hear the voices of the foremothers," which signals what these songs could be about. What struck me the most - aside from the very particular musical atmospheres - were the lyrics, as they display a profound sensitivity towards Mother Earth ("they want to remind us that the earth is our mother / if we take her life / we die with her" Gula Gula).

Wonderful John, I'm glad I read it; it would have been a shame to miss this recommendation.

I read that this year the Punta Giara association would organize the festival in a traveling format, I think it's a great idea; they have been doing it at Time in Jazz for years and it works wonderfully. It's a shame I missed this concert, but it comforts me that it balances out with the fact that you missed a wonderful Carla Bley :)

I don't know, as often happens in your pages, the samples are extremely interesting, I like them all also because they give me the idea of an album with an infinity of variables, bye bye.

The beautiful story that concludes the fusillo review resonated with me, as I too went through my "Portuguese period," during which I tried to listen to as much music from that land as possible. Of course, Amalia Rodrigues was among these listens, but Dulce Pontes also had her place, and despite being talented, I really don't know if I can crown her as the heir to fado. After all, each of the singers you mention has had her own journey and story. Amalia is Amalia, and Dulce is Dulce. Goodbye.
