"One day, however, while returning from a trip to Pamplona, I had the opportunity to visit the Toy Museum in Figueras. The music accompanying the visitors was one I now recognized; it was the petit musique by Pascal Comelade. I flinched, asked for information, inquired... They told me: "Comelade! I wrote again and, as I wrote, I expanded, taking advantage of the flattery of an invitation and an Award from a prestigious festival, coveted by chance, dominated by an obscure intuition. I opened up and invited in turn... and finally, a response came, always on chemical paper. It was in agreement! In fact, it stated: "It is now clear that I can no longer refuse! Send me the pieces, by mail of course!" and it even added a final spiral in the postscript. And then, as if it had leaped around my neck, I understood the intimate nature of that sign that one cannot tell if it embraces or chokes, when one has the fortune to wear it."

Here's the story of Capossela
"Some time ago, I learned of the work of a strange artist who, at least on the surface, seemed to even take the trouble to number the copies of his own records. Particular records, which often drew from the works of unsuspected authors, from Kurt Weill to Tony Dallara, and transformed them into a score for a musical device. Captivated by the deconstruction he rendered in music, I sought to obtain his collaboration. However, from that point on, the only tangible proof of his existence that I received were words written on chemical paper. 'Everything related to Argot, pataphysics, and the circus is dear to me,' he replied on a sheet signed with a final spiral. From that moment on, all our further contact occurred solely by mail, including his participation on the album Canzoni a manovella. Later, however, the opportunity for a meeting arose. The Mantua Festival provided a suitable venue: the Teatro Scientifico Bibbiena, an acoustic invention inaugurated by the prodigy W.A. Mozart. Everything seemed certain by now, but shortly thereafter, a communication announced Comelade's inability to attend. I then began to doubt the real existence of this genius man, who nourished himself with postcards, faxes, spirals, and toy records.

I’ll try to give you an answer. From what I’ve seen, it’s not easy to gather information on Pascal Comelade, Zaireeka. From what I’ve learned, he lives a very private life in the Pyrenees. For this reason, Capossela described him as an imaginary character. He wanted to contact him, and not being able to, he started to think that he didn’t exist. It’s not even that easy to find his records. So far, I’ve only found one and I reviewed it on this site (Pascal Comelade Bel Canto Orquestra - Live In Lisbon And Barcelona Ninetynine). But I’m always on the lookout for the others. Bye.

Good review of an album that I personally must have underestimated. In fact, reading the translated lyrics of a song on this site Libero - Community - I siti personali made me want to listen to it again.
