AA.VV. Eyes Wide Shut (Soundtrack)

I wasn't thinking about Cruise, but about the fact that he wanted to bring the story to the present. Reading the novella at least sparks the curiosity to see how it ends :)) A five to Shostakovich. Bye

Kappa, if you haven't already, read Schnitzler's novella "Dream Story," published by Adelphi (it will cost 8 €). It's simply stunning, like so many of Schnitzler's novellas. After that, rewatch the film; maybe then you'll be curious to see the ending. Enea, it's not that I didn't put up a fight; it's just that the review is clear, even though I find the term "classic" inappropriate :)))) As for the ghosts, just totally disregard them. Bye :)))
Wayne Shorter Alegria

I know Wayne Shorter, but I don’t know this album and it seems interesting, yet at the moment I'm prioritizing listening (and buying) the classics. The open definition of "jazz" that you propose is really nice; it says a lot. Bye.

This review should be read slowly, as it is rich in many truly interesting insights. After all, the subject itself is rich. There isn't much more to add about the album because the review is quite exhaustive (perhaps one could only engage in a tedious terminological dispute over the phrase "classico"). It might also be pointed out that the soundtrack is quite heterogeneous compared to other works in Kubrick's filmography. I would only add a couple of things that have already been mentioned on other pages of this site. For me, it is no coincidence that the breakup between Cruise and Kidman occurred after this film, which for the two must have felt like a long analysis. After all, Schnitzler (the author of Traumnovelle, from which the film is adapted) was considered by Freud to be his literary double. The themes of sex and jealousy in the couple must have been thoroughly explored by Kubrick, and I read in the biography that Kubrick's wife delayed the film's production (which was supposed to take place in the 60s) precisely because it could have jeopardized their relationship. I believe the film is unfinished. I’ve always thought that Kubrick did not have time to revise the final edit. Some passages are not fluid, they feel tired, and that is surprising. Regarding the music, the film renews the passion for Ligeti but also foregrounds the jazz of Mehldau and Oscar Peterson - by the way, the latter will be at Umbria Jazz this year, a unique opportunity for fans. (PS: Just for the record, I was at the beach :) Happy Monday.

I saw his performance at the concert in Piazza San Giovanni on TV last night. Energetic.
Goran Bregovic Ederlezi

Brahms and Bartok, but also Liszt, Debussy, Dvorak, Mahler. The list of musicians who have drawn from this cultural well is truly significant. This album by Bregovic is fantastic, vibrant, energetic. I have also seen the show: "Musica per matrimoni e funerali," a real celebration. Always shared choices by Grass, it's nice.
