Your proposal brings to mind a long discussion with Eneathedevil about minimalism in his twin review. I refer to that venue for comments on the album; I just remember that Nyman was "inspired" by some ancient Scottish folk music for these themes. I appreciate your take on the film and the music. I’ve never quite managed to appreciate the good Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, perhaps due to a prejudice that positions him as lesser compared to other composers. Certainly, there are some pieces I like, but... who knows. The sketched biography doesn’t make him more fascinating to me, yet the musical description makes me reconsider... I don't even remember this work, which I do have somewhere in who knows which interpretation. Time for a reevaluation.

It's a shame you didn't like it; sometimes that happens, especially because expectations can be dangerous. That's why I used to suggest not overthinking while listening. However, to be honest, I haven't read many praises for this record around; in fact, I remember more criticism than anything else, phrases like "a step back" and so on. Instead, I think this is an album that gradually grows on you; I really don't see it as anonymous. In fact, after some time, I still listen to it, which doesn't happen often. Bye :)
