Savatage: Power Of The Night
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Another good album of classic hard'n'heavy, even if the overall level is not memorable. Notable are the Sabbath-esque "Fountain of youth" and "In the dream." (6.5)
Savatage: Hall Of The Mountain King
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Emotionally, it deserves 5 stars, but rationally, I give it 4. This is the album of true change, the one with which Savatage will embrace a more progressive and cohesive style. But above all, it is a testament to their compositional maturation. “24 hours ago,” “Legions,” and the title track are classics of the band. (8)
Savatage: Sirens
CD Audio I have it ★★★
A good debut for one of the most underrated hard'n'heavy bands in history. The title track and "Holocaust" are two great pieces. The sound is somewhat derivative, but unlike many other acts in the genre, the best works for Savatage will come in the future. (7/10)

Not to be underestimated, dead winter dead was a must-have for a medal lover in the late nineties. That album, by the way, continues to be a worthy record; sirens I've never heard, though, I’m sorry. Anyway, look at this coincidence, the other day (probably following a chat with a user who was asking me about my past with medal), I went to dig through their discography to see how much stuff I had missed over the last few years (the last 18 years...) and I found out that from wake of magellan to ogi they only released one album. In the early 2000s, by the way. But did they split up then?

I don't know if they have broken up, but they still perform a few concerts. Anyway, for metalheads, they have produced some great stuff, no doubt about it, but I think they have reaped less than what they sowed, that's why I say they are underrated.
Savatage: Gutter Ballet
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The perfect result of the change undertaken with the previous one. Fratelli Oliva on the shields and pieces to be passed down like the title track, "When The Crowds Are Gone", "Summer's Rain". Great album. (8)
Savatage: Fight For The Rock
CD Audio I have it ★★
Perhaps the worst album by Savatage, definitely the one I loved the least. A bland hard rock that here is quite devoid of ideas. Two covers fill an album that could use some revision. (5.5)
Savatage: Streets - A Rock Opera
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
I don't know if it's truly the best Savatage album, but it's certainly an emotional memory that shakes me every time. One of the most heartfelt and nostalgic hard rock/heavy metal albums I have ever listened to. Jon Oliva at his best, with tracks that alone are worth the career of hundreds of today's bands. How can one forget songs like "Jesus Saves," "A Little Too Far," "If I Go Away," "Believe"? A gem to be revisited from time to time. (9)

In my metalhead adolescence, I played it to death! Today it's gathering dust somewhere. I remember it as a well-played album with fabulous tracks and others that are a bit more forgettable, and honestly, from the same metal period, I remember that I much preferred Dead Winter Dead, but I haven't listened to them in eons, and it's known that memory can play tricks...
Savatage: The Dungeons Are Calling
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A high-level EP, where the title track and "By the grace of the witch" stand out. Stylistically, it continues in the vein of the debut "Sirens." (7.5)
A great cast wasted in a "revenge" movie twisted around stereotypes and political simplifications. Visually powerful, it stops at times to a schoolbook direction, and the screenplay doesn’t help Cooper. A film of names but not of ideas. (5.5)
"A-Lex" and "Kairos" had given me a glimmer of hope. I thought (wrongly) that Sepultura would manage to deliver something finally convincing. But no: once again, cosmic nothingness. (4.5)
sepultura: roorback
CD Audio I have it ★
Perhaps the lowest point reached by Sepultura. All the tracks are the same, overly recycled riffs that claim to "quake" when in reality they amplify a disarming overall flatness. (4)
sepultura: dante XXi
CD Audio I have it ★
In line with the previous one. Nothing to report except a disarming lack of ideas. Witness to this are useless pieces that hardly exceed 3 minutes. (4.5)
sepultura: kairos
CD Audio I have it ★★
The best of the last few years, and not by chance, the early days of thrash reappear (albeit clandestinely). The title track and "Seethe" are the best pieces produced since "Nation". But there’s little else that can help it reach mediocrity. (5.5)
Sepultura: A-Lex
CD Audio I have it ★★
Slightly better album than the previous ones. Still the same very thin patterns, still uninspired songwriting that Sepultura has been recycling since "Against," but this time there’s something listenable. (5.5)
Raw, putrid, childish texts, but after all, we are talking about 16-year-olds. And the grade is truly related to an age that, however, shows an unprecedented attitude. (6)

Together with the mini from a previous year, "Bestial Devastation" marks the birth of the Brazilian combo of the Cavalera brothers, who were then just barely more than kids!!!! I have rarely heard songs so poorly recorded, but with such a strong impact.
Sepultura: Against
CD Audio I have it ★★★
The beginning of the end. The only album with Derrick Green on vocals that I can save from being a failure. Max's departure is definitely felt. The nu has now wiped out thrash and the ideas are clearly running low. It barely makes it through. (6)
  • De...Marga...
    29 oct 14
I bought the vinyl when it was released and sold it a few days later without even getting to the end... Without Max, they have no reason to exist, for me.
Sepultura: Roots
CD Audio I have it ★★★
A work that broadens horizons. Nu-metal makes its entrance and the band takes ownership of it. What emerges is an album that can be considered "experimental," distancing itself from what they had done before. An interesting record, but it lacks the right bite. Moreover, "filler" tracks with very short durations come into play, which will be the downfall of the subsequent Sepultura. (6.5)
  • De...Marga...
    29 oct 14
Brave album, there's no doubt about it; however, I've never particularly appreciated it, being much more attached to the immediacy of the three albums that preceded it. Nonetheless, it is a respectable final album for a band that disappeared shortly after; at least for me.
Sepultura: Nation
CD Audio I have it ★★
An album that has little to say. 2 or 3 tracks stand out (like "Sepulnation" and "Vox Populi"), but there's really not much else to highlight. (5)
Sepultura: Beneath the Remains
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
First true record by the Brazilians. From black reminiscences, it moves to a more canonical and "thoughtful" thrash, where an Amazonian roughness remains that is inherent to the band and necessary in their musical expression. Songwriting that needs to grow, but a first true noteworthy effort. "Inner Self" is a great track. (7.5)
  • De...Marga...
    29 oct 14
I would like to add that finally from this album one can appreciate a production and a quality of the tracks that are decidedly better, after the raw and youthful beginnings. "Inner Self" live in the nineties was a great listen!!!! And a massacre near the stage!!!
Sepultura: Schizophrenia
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Dish of honest speed thrash/black. I don't find much, but it's still an enjoyable effort. The beginning of the maturation that will come later. (6.5)
  • De...Marga...
    29 oct 14
They are starting to lay the solid foundations for the continuation of their career: Max has a clear vision and knows where he wants to go; it's a pity that the poor and dark recording ruins a good Thrash album.
Sepultura: Arise
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The first of the two semi-masterpieces by Sepultura. It’s true, they come after the other greats of thrash, but precisely for this reason it will be complicated to find other such high-quality levels in the genre throughout the '90s. Tracks like the title track, "Dead Embryonic Cells," and "Desperate Cry" are gems of thrash/death. (8)
  • De...Marga...
    29 oct 14
For me, their best album, with a sound so cohesive it borders on perfection!!! All nine tracks could be mentioned, with the opening pair being a terrifying highlight. Not to mention the closing entrusted to the devastating "Infected Voice."

Sepultura: Chaos A.D.
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
For me, the best album ever produced by Brazilians. Max Cavalera at his peak. Social criticism expressed through a powerful and essential thrash, where every note is exactly where it should be. "Territory", "Amen", "Propaganda", "Nomad" are all masterpieces. A level they haven't reached in the past and unfortunately won't come close to in the future. (8.5)
  • De...Marga...

Great album, although I prefer the two previous ones... I would add to the songs you mentioned the opening track "Refuse/Resist" and the terrific punch of "Biotech is Godzilla."
Slayer: Reign in blood
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Fury, anger, total devastation. Few other albums in music history can boast such compositional urgency and a desire to spit brutality like this work. A relentlessly hard album that has laid the foundations for death metal. For me, more important than its overall beauty, which imo is surpassed by another one of their records. A fundamental work that all metal lovers in general should have. (9)

I'm sure I'm wrong, but is this where it says "die by the sword"?
Slayer: South of heaven
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Compact disc, more "thoughtful" and less manic and frenetic than RIB. Fourth consecutive center. Stunning the title track and "Spill the Blood," also worth mentioning "Behind the Crooked Cross." However, it perhaps suffers too much from the comparison with what came immediately before. (7.5)
Slayer: God Hates Us All
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Compact, honest work, a "return" to the thrash of the late '80s, but reinterpreted in a more modern key. "Disciple" and "Bloodline" are always a pleasure to listen to. (7)
Slayer: Diabolus In Musica
CD Audio I have it ★★★
They tried to change it up, and it’s a record that’s not as bad as many claim. There are influences, but it can't even be compared to what came before. (6.5)
Slayer: Seasons In The Abyss
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Don't take it the wrong way, "Reign in Blood," but as I see it, this is the true masterpiece from Slayer. A monstrous album, packed full of timeless tracks like "War Ensemble," "Dead Skin Mask," "Skeletons of Society," and the title track. It's worth noting that all this came at the beginning of the '90s, when perhaps the most powerful wave of thrash had already fallen into the clutches of grunge, and the attention surrounding this genre was slowly fading. An immortal work, the pinnacle of Slayer and thrash. (9)
Slayer: Divine Intervention
CD Audio I have it ★★★
A notable step back from "Seasons"... It's listenable, nothing more. (6.5)
Slayer: Show No Mercy
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The first cry of a monster that will heavily influence the codification of speed/thrash. A fundamental album (albeit raw), for me even more important than Metallica's "Kill 'em all." "Black Magic" is a adamantine track, to be passed down to future generations. (8.5)
Slayer: Christ Illusion
CD Audio I have it ★★★
In line with the previous one. They are no longer the destructive Slayer of twenty years ago, but their thrash remains just as genuine. An album that marks the return of Dave Lombardo. A record among the most aggressive in terms of lyrics from Slayer. (7)
Slayer: World Painted Blood
CD Audio I have it ★★★
A professionally crafted album, enjoyable enough to almost scream masterpiece if it had been produced by one of the thousand clone bands that have emerged in recent years. Instead, it's the work of Slayer, and so it's an album like many others. A secondary episode in their discography, but it's difficult to expect works comparable to those of the eighties. (6.5)
Slayer: Hell Awaits
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
In my opinion, a step back from SNM. To be clear, we are still faced with another amazing record, but I believe that the longer and more "crafted" tracks aren't the best of Araya and company, and "Hell awaits" suffers from it. Another excellent episode, an important piece of their career, destined to explode in the near future. (8)

For me, on the other hand, it's their best.
Sodom: 'Til Death Do Us Unite
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Disc that brings Sodom back from the previous (and not good) MIB. A more compact album, with some memorable hits like "Fuck The Police," "Polytoximaniac," and the German "Schwerter Zu Pflugscharen." Not a masterpiece, but a full-length reboot for the Teutonic band. (7)
Sodom: The Final Sign Of Evil
CD Audio I have it ★★
In fact, it's the reissue of the 1984 EP with the addition of some tracks. A brief return to the very raw black of the early days. An album that I have never understood and that has never captivated me. (5.5)
Sodom: Epitome Of Torture
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Usual good thrash album from Sodom. I'm not too convinced by the recording, with the guitar overshadowing everything a bit. There's also a lack of a true hit, but it's still a nice listen. Old style. (7)
Sodom: In War And Pieces
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A powerful concentration of classic thrash. An album that also elevates the level of songwriting like never before in their career. Several tracks showcase a more melodic streak, and the structure becomes more complex and, if we want to say, "American" (see "Feigned Death Throes" and "Soul Contraband"). Slightly underwhelming in the last tracks. Otherwise, it's a great record, little else to say. (7.5)
Sodom: Sodom
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Return album after 5 years. Yet another solid effort from Angelripper and company, with a sound that's slightly more "heavy" compared to the past, and guitars that lose some of their super-thrashy thickness. Several noteworthy tracks such as "City Of God," "Axis Of Evil," and "The Enemy Inside." An album that's always nice to listen to, even if it's not among the best from the Germans. (7)
Sodom: Obsessed By Cruelty
CD Audio I have it ★★
First album incredibly raw. I don't join those who say it's a gem of black/thrash. I find it too childish (even in the lyrics) to give it a passing grade. The recording is at times unbearable, with instruments overlapping nonsensically. Words are "chopped off" and the pronunciation is slightly scandalous... in short, I don’t like it, despite a few riffs and some old school headbanging rhythms. (5)
Sodom: Persecution Mania
CD Audio I have it ★★★
I don't know why, but I can't bring myself to really like it, except as one of the many good thrash albums from the German scene of that time. Maybe it suffers from too monotonous a construction to be truly considered a masterpiece. Sure, "Nuclear Winter" and "Christ Passion" are earth-shattering and very successful tracks, but I don't see much else that's exciting. (6.5)
Sodom: Agent Orange
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Discone, discone, and more discone. Setting aside the black charge of the first album and the raw thrash of "Persecution Mania," this is the first true classic from Sodom. There’s a palpable creative fury that will fade away in later works. The title track, "Tired And Red," and "Magic Dragon" are songs to be treasured in the vault of European metal. (8.5)
Sodom: Better Off Dead
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The Teutons are in search of melody. It's a more heavy-oriented record, softer compared to the previous albums. A commendable effort, still at a high level ("The Saw Is The Law" and "Capture The Flag" standing out). But we are a step back compared to AO. (7.5)
