Lacuna Coil: Karmacode
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
I love rock, but metal, well... That said, Lacuna Coil are hard rock, not metal (as some jokers dared to call them, no). This, and the previous "Comalies" (which opened the doors to American success for them, a feat achieved in Italy only by them, PFM, and Maneskin) are two solid albums. "Karmacode" is powerful and well played, with the downside that after a while all the songs start to sound the same (but tracks like "What I see", "Closer" or the big single "Our truth" are, I'd say, essential) with the final gem "Enjoy the silence," a cover that leaves a mark. But, it's better that they sing in English, the only Italian track, "Without fear," is a bit weak. A work designed for the American market, and it sold like crazy. To the detriment of those who wish them harm (and there are many, unfortunately).

As a debut, nothing to object to; if only he had always continued like this. In an Italian musical landscape that at the end of the '80s seemed to have little to say, Ligabue burst in with his guitars, his riffs, and a healthy desire for rock that blends the Springsteen-like world of the great American prairies with the moody and foggy atmosphere of the Bassa Padana. "Angelo della nebbia"; "Balliamo sul mondo"; "Bar Mario"; "Piccola stella senza cielo" are the calling cards that captivate millions of young Italian rockers. It will prove to be a flash in the pan, a pity.

I don’t dislike the next two at all, quite the opposite. And I wouldn’t throw “Happy Birthday Elvis” overboard either. Then yes, having reached (great) success, he started to live off his past achievements like many others, although he did produce some good work afterwards as well.

The period of uncertainty is over: abundant doses of rock and truly believable ballads ("Certe notti"; "Non dovete badare al cantante"; "Leggero") bring him back to the top of the charts. However, the era of the Banda, replacing the ClanDestino, has something déjà vu about it. superato:

ClanDestino were something else entirely; the Banda isn't bad, but it has, let's say, a less original sound and lasted for just one album, because from the next one onwards the quality will, inevitably, start to decline.

It's true, I also definitely prefer the ClanDestino, but in this album everything works perfectly...
19 jul 22:02
Surprisingly, he changes style and sound: the Springsteen-like rock of his beginnings gives way to a more syncopated hard rock, but one that is much less effective and convincing. Only "Ho messo via" goes down in history—a languid and (all too) crowd-pleasing ballad. The rest is negligible.

I disagree, I consider it one of his absolute best. Its "gloominess" makes it fascinating to me. I find wonderful (besides "Ho messo via") I duri hanno due cuori, Piccola città eterna, La ballerina del carillon, Walter il mago and Quando tocca a te. Maybe he took a bit of a musical risk with the two almost metal tracks "Dove fermano i treni" and "Pane al pane", but in the end I don't mind those either.

After three years of hibernation, Ligabue is back in the game, and he does so with an album featuring a less fluid sound (produced by Corrado Rustici), followed by the legendary first crowd bath at CampoVolo. However, he doesn’t seem all that eager to keep making music, but he sells in droves.
Litfiba: 17 Re
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The masterpiece of Litfiba? Maybe. Certainly one of the most beautiful, before the very pop and less rock turn post-1993. A lot of great stuff ("Re del silenzio"; "Pierrot e la luna"), some things leave you speechless ("Apapaia"; "Gira nel mio cerchio"), but it’s a bit too long and a couple of tracks seem too minor compared to the rest ("Come un Dio"; "Ballata"). It’s worth a lot, maybe not a great deal.

15 jul 14:49
Having shed their skin as a hard and pure emerging rock band, Litfiba transform (to the great dismay of their early fans) into a top-chart group champions of a rock closer to pop. Scandal: come on, it’s just the natural evolution of a band that understood that the ’90s can no longer be musically treated like the ’80s. "Firenze sogna"; "Soldi"; "Dimmi il nome"; "Maudit" echo on all the radios. The quality is very high, but the disputes between Renzulli and Pelù become increasingly persistent, and the subsequent works will mark both their friendly and musical end. Scandalo:

Luca Carboni: Carboni
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Great Italian pop record (he and Raf had plenty of good ideas back then) excellently performed (remarkable drums and bass lines) and with lyrics that are not taken for granted. But it was the last burst of brilliance. After that, the water of mediocrity extinguished it.

A beautiful album, a product of its time and of a restless generation that Carboni outlined with refinement and good pop taste. Songs like "La voglia di vivere," "Vieni a vivere con me," "Farfallina," and "Silvia lo sai" will go down in history, while tracks that seem weaker at first, like "Lungomare" or "Caro Gesù," are signs of definitive maturation, not only musically.

Given the sales record (and so he's right), it's a terrible album, disappointing in both content and sound (by now all too worn out). The single is "Mi ami davvero": banalities worthy of a Perugina chocolate and adolescent love swooning unbefitting of an (almost) forty-year-old.

A bit too harsh, but there’s something redeemable about this album. Even though their previous works were definitely on another level!

Growing compared to previous works, he almost seems to guess a couple of tracks without even trying: "Siamo chi siamo"; "Per sempre". He has the habit of pontificating ("Il sale della terra") and the love songs ("Tu sei lei") are among the least bland he has ever written. Not bad. volerlo:

Unexpectedly, after an unforeseen misstep, here he is once again showing off a form that is at times convincing. "Nato per me" is a rock track that leaves its mark, as does "Ti sento," a sentimental ballad. What falters are the singles, hits that are catchy (too catchy) and easy to latch onto.

15 jul 15:13
It starts to repeat itself. The second album is, no less, a sequel to the debut, a bit less convincing but still very well played, with some spot-on riffs ("Sarà un bel souvenir"; "Urlando contro il cielo"). "Camera con vista sul deserto" leaves you speechless, other things less so.

He sells, oversells, and becomes a hit with the catchy tune co-written with Samuele Bersani, "Canzone". He seems more in tune with his audience (and not only them) than ever before in his career, but the album is disappointing, and "Ayrton" pales in comparison with "Nuvolari" from twenty years earlier.

Two lengths longer than the previous "Com'è profondo il mare" (weighed down by too many forgettable tracks), this album opens the decade (at least until 1988) that is the most "clean" and prolific of Dalla. No filler songs, just 40-carat gems destined to become part of every Italian's collective memory, open-air poems ("Tango"; "Milano"; "L'anno che verrà"; "Anna e Marco"; "L'ultima luna"). A masterpiece.

An Italian boyband that nailed 5 smash hits with full marks ("Un giorno migliore"; "Qualcosa di grande"; "50 Special"; "Se ci sarai"; "Vorrei") and an album that, when listened to again today, sounds like a historical relic worthy of the best "Jurassic Park." Lots of memories, those for sure.
