two stars are really too few; here it’s not a matter of taste, it’s a beautiful and refined album, just lighter than the previous ones, but in my opinion, it deserves no less than 4 balls.

Ah, it seems like it's really a matter of tastes, which are obviously sacred to me. Coincidentally (I didn’t remember and went to check), even the good Cesare Rizzi, in his Giunti manual, gives two “balls” to the record, while still confirming its pleasantness.

From a historical perspective, however, Camel was a nice and somewhat unfortunate group. Compared to the true or presumed “greats” of prog, they suffered from the lack of a vocalist with strong technical and emotional impact, and the fact that they were at least a couple of years, if not more, behind the stylistic demands of the genre.

Indeed, in my opinion, even in their best works, a little something “already given” occasionally peeks out (King Crimson? Genesis? Shall we talk about the blatantly Pink Floyd-like solo in The Snow Goose?).

When they turned, like other groups, towards more “pop” atmospheres and structures, acquiring a recognizable singer (perhaps too recognizable, to the point that they were jokingly called “Caramel”), this, in my view, paradoxically contributed to making them even more “homogenized,” while in the meantime I was shifting towards other listens and genres.

And here we return, precisely, to the issue of tastes, on which, as the Latin saying goes, one should not spit! (de gustibus non “sputandum” est...)
