Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland

Masterpiece, listened to 40 some years later, hasn’t aged at all.
Hendrix leaps from genre to genre while still giving it his stamp; Voodoo Child (not the slight return) is a blues masterpiece.

Curious. Fuggitivo collects the debut of Traffic and here you have it, scattered between one track and another, with all the members of that great English band playing :) Anyway, an indescribable record.

Too many fillers; the essential tracks (the ones I still listen to) are just three: the two Voodoo and 1983. For me, Hendrix's peak remains the first album, well above the others.

Come on fugitive, and you leave behind the sumptuous cover of "All Along ...", Crosstown Traffic, and Gypsy Eyes. A very wrong choice.

Fugitive... let's call them fillers, because there are people who would lick their lips if they could make fillers like that.

And yet the beauty of this album, and what makes it a masterpiece, is that in it Hendrix seeks to explore new territories. He could have settled into the same formula but he didn't, and I find this a merit also because he didn't go in a commercial direction; there remains only the regret of a death that came too soon, who knows where he would have gone...
