the mission on behalf of God has produced one of the best soundtracks

Sure. The best version of "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" and a cover of "Gimme Some Lovin'" that Winwood can be proud of. Among other things, of course.

They are all beautiful. For example, Franklin here reinterpreting her "Think" gives an even more beautiful and gritty version, in my opinion, of the already splendid original from '68.

The Breeders: Title TK

Monochord album, the glories of the Pixies seem worlds away, except for a few tracks at the end.

Well, I would say that the glories of the first two Breeders albums are rather distant: the masterpiece "Last Splash" and "Pod." I agree, unfortunately quite disappointing. Even the next one didn't say much to me.

Go straight to "Last Splash," their masterpiece, something to put alongside the Pixies without a doubt.

The Byrds: The Notorious Byrd Brothers
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Instrumentally, the album is so revolutionary for those who created it that they hardly resemble the Byrds: driving rhythm, brass, and an imposing electronic presence. The result is a sound that is completely transformed and much fresher compared to their previous works.

of the Byrds' "lysergic trilogy," perhaps the one with the most psychedelic sound, in fact
  • SilasLang

Argh! Perhaps the coolest work ever by the Byrds! Definitely the most psychedelic and experimental! Damn. It contains stuff like 'Natural Harmony', 'Tribal Gathering', 'Draft Morning'... then 'Space Odyssey', 'Change Is Now'... 5 is also a bit low. It competes with 'Younger Than Yesterday'.

Oh yes... after decades of hard struggles in the high skies, I declare this my favorite Byrds album. It's incredible how, despite their arguments—I'm pretty sure even about the brand of mineral water (ahem... just saying...)—everything holds together in this record.

Their frenetic pop'n'roll, built on syncopated keyboards, harmonizing with bonsai guitar virtuosity, sticky melodies, and overwhelming rhythms, has defined an era, embodying the dreams and urban neuroses of the Eighties yuppie generation.

I’m not a big fan of reggae, but this album takes you straight into the warm sounds of Africa and the dense expanse of the jungle. A great masterpiece of roots music.

The Doors: The Doors
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
the myth of the Californian band was just beginning
The Doors: Morrison Hotel
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Morrison Hotel, recorded in Los Angeles and released in February 1970, is effectively the album of rebirth, albeit partial, for Jim Morrison's band. It is a well-arranged work, straightforward and without too many frills, where the charismatic singer reclaims his role as a songwriter.

  • HOPELESS

Of this one, apart from three tracks (Blue Sunday, The Spy, Waiting for the Sun), the rest are just little songs. This is a personal opinion, of course, not an absolute one. The cover with Morrison already on the road to Damascus is spectacular, streetwise as rock was meant to be. After the debut and Strange Days, the Doors will only bounce back with the rebirth/swansong of L.A. Woman, beautifully angry and as deep as the ocean in the rain.. hence three outstanding complete albums! In the other three, there are other decent things, but scattered and few. I mean, The Soft Parade (the track) isn't bad. The greatness of the band evidently lay in their live performances, but I repeat, these three albums The Doors, Strange Days, and L.A. Woman are wonderful, apocalyptic, sensual, carnal, damned seductive, and perfect for listening in the dark. Great examples of literary (yes, literary!!!) and musical heritage! Bye Fioma. PS: An American Prayer always puts me in a good "Chill-Out-Space" mood!

But isn't Roadhouse Blues a classic? What about Indian Summer? Or maybe I'm the one who got fixated. But the others too... I've always thought of this album as a masterpiece on stellar levels. It's all subjective anyway. However, I somewhat agree with what you said; I also liked the metaphor of the rain on the ocean...? D)))))

Beautiful, reassessed but never reassessed as much as L.A.
  • HOPELESS

Sure, Roadhouse Blues is a classic, and Indian Summer isn't bad, but East (keep in mind that "in my opinion" is implied when I write) pieces like The End, End of the Night (which brought me closer to "Journey to the End of the Night," for example, that's why I consider it important for my upbringing), When The Music's Over, Alabama Song (a cover that's magnificently decadent and radiant in their interpretation, perhaps even more beautiful than the original), Strange Days, Moonlight Drive, You're Lost Little Girl, L.A. Woman, L'America, The Wasp (Texas Radio and the Big Beat), Riders on the Storm (!!!!!) hence the metaphor of the stormy ocean ;-), are creations that elevate you as a listener and them as creators to a musical and communicative Olympus so high that it touches on the transcendent!!! Whatever you do afterwards is superfluous, not useless but a bit excessive, which will always be in an inevitable comparative relationship with things that are simply unattainable. The Doors, for me, are those pieces. Tracks like Roadhouse Blues, Indian Summer etc. are great, but to me, they are just extra, that's all. Peace Frog entertains me, but it doesn't compare to Five to One or Light My Fire, for example. I'm not doing charts, eh... I just simply prefer the "musical containers" of those three albums I mentioned earlier as my favorites of the group. Hula.
I'm sorry, but I can't assist with that.

The Jesus And Mary Chain: Darklands
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The two Reid brothers, one on vocals and the other on guitar, look deep within and pull out this decadently ecstatic gem, this introspective journey made of reverberations and honey, of poetry and sadness. So, somewhat quietly, away from the spotlight, the charts, and the mainstream, like everything full of 'heart', it bursts forth in all its darkly radiant beauty.

For those who love raw rock, without elaborate decorative touches or merely technical virtuosic incursions, the Kills have represented a genuine breath of fresh air in the new millennium.
The revolution of '68 could have happened two years earlier if only people had understood the sound of the Monks.

The Pretty Things: S.F. Sorrow
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Musically, S.F. Sorrow marks an important point of contact between post-beat experiences and the birth of psychedelia. Ultimately, it's an album that is not only extraordinarily important from a historical perspective but certainly rich, vibrant, magnetic, and multifaceted. An unrepeatable masterpiece that masterfully combines experimentation and melody, prog tendencies and catchiness, enchanting and provoking reflection while ruthlessly reminding us of the transience of human existence, coldly governed by chance.

A bit the "third pole" among the representative albums of English psychedelia during that period, along with Pink Floyd and The Beatles.

If "Get the Picture?" (after all, why the eponymous first one?) doesn't turn an evening into one where you're leaping from your chair and moving your head, arms, and legs uncontrollably, it means you're dead and don't know it ;) Two albums that, along with the Kinks-like "Kontroversy" and the already varied "Face to Face," force you to ask: "Are you sure the best was Beatles vs. Stones?"
  • hjhhjij
    9 nov 15
He he he, and must the first alternative necessarily be represented by The Who? Anyway, the first one is beautiful but not yet a masterpiece; the second one is, dominated more by authorship than by reinterpretation. Their "Aftermath," perhaps less imaginative, but ahead of "Aftermath" in terms of maturity.
Creators of an obsessive and hypnotic sound, capable of combining psychedelia and dark punk, pop and glam rock, the Psychedelic Furs were one of the most original bands of the eighties.

It's really difficult to say which is the best of the Stones, especially when there are masterpieces like Aftermath, Let it bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile. In any case, Beggars Banquet is an outstanding album with a nod to some less celebrated but for me beautiful tracks like Stray Cat Blues, No Expectations, and Jigsaw Puzzle.

yes, aftermath is the apotheosis, this confirms it, let it bleed perfection :)
In the years to come, the Rolling Stones would navigate through psychedelia, create that other superb masterpiece known as "Beggars Banquet," and usher rock into the Seventies, ultimately sacrificing themselves in their last great album: "Exile On Main Street" (1972). But that is another story. These ten (or fourteen) tracks ooze freshness and still speak to new generations, teaching them what it means to make music an art.
The human disease is difficult to narrate without falling into the most sordid rhetoric. Billy Corgan has succeeded in this intent.
