Even though there are some less successful tracks (due to a psychedelic carefreeness that I consider to have aged horribly?), in this album the overrated English band reaches its compositional peaks in many episodes.

From this point onward, without the guitar, it really feels like an embryo of ELP, but aside from the good Emerson, the others are pretty decent musicians too! And they really have fun together... it's a shame that the flashes of inspiration are yet to come and that there are many moments of self-indulgence, if not outright arrogance.

In many ways, this album is a masterpiece: dynamic, intricate, engaging, experimental. It’s a shame about some tiresome excesses of English psychedelia and a few tracks that aren't quite up to par.

Impetuous, triumphant, sick: a rock album completely alien to Bowie's style yet somehow immeasurably his. It's a shame not all the tracks are that lively; in fact, many last a minute or two too long. However, the beautiful "Pretty Things" and "Video Crime" are definitely worth mentioning.

A work with unique sounds and rhythms, cryptic evocative lyrics, and a dizzying rise and fall of emotions. Even amidst its infinite facets, the composition of the 4 still holds some ties to a more traditional style from its beginnings. It is, however, one of the most sensational records of all time.
