One of the best in the history of rock, hands down. Here, the Purple find the right balance in their sound, and the result is timeless classics. Child In Time in the Made in Japan version still gives me chills even after 15 years of listening.

As a kid, I wore it out. I was a synthpop fanatic...today, growing up and in hindsight, my favorite DMs have shifted towards "Music For The Masses," "Songs of Faith and Devotion," and "Ultra"...which for me was their last great album.

This is one of those albums that has entered my blood, my DNA for decades, and nothing will ever take it away. A masterpiece with calm, soft tones and that magical touch of guitar that is unmatched, in my most humble opinion.

It's the album that introduced me to the band and practically marked my entrance into the world of Rock; compared to the two previous masterpieces, it might be a touch less immediate and more commercial. Even so, there are legendary moments like "Solid Rock"....not to mention the first two, famously well-known, songs.

For me, the True Bennato (capital letters) ends with this, even if it’s already musically less raw and more "bourgeois" than the previous ones. After two decent/good albums, a few good tracks mixed with sporadic crap.

Yes, yes, after that it struggled a lot to stay afloat. "They're just little songs," still decent, then quite dark with only a few flashes.

I also think that "Sono solo canzonette" is quite inferior to this, as the intention and the music have been sporadically lifted from the work mentioned above. "Burattino senza fili" is not only my favorite album by Bennato, but another cornerstone of Italian singer-songwriter music.
  • SydBarrett96

My favorite by Bennato is "I Buoni ed i Cattivi," but let's say I prefer the first four to Burattino. :) As for the rest, I agree.

Well, anyway, great choice, in fact; let's get straight to the point: here are my top five by Bennato.
    1 - Burattino senza fili
    2 - I Buoni ed i Cattivi
3 - La torre di Babele
4 - Non farti cadere le braccia
    5 - Io che non sono l'imperatore

As far as I'm concerned, it holds up until 1987. Then comes the artistic death, although some things can still be saved until the mid-90s. For the past 25 years or so, it's been total nothingness. What a shame.
