The only album by U2 that I can tolerate. And something from the 'Achtung/Zooropa' era. As for the rest, I could never stand them. Not even 'The Unforgettable Fire', 'Joshua Tree'... they irritated me back then too.

Better :) I love to nitpick about this album; after all, it's one of my all-time favorites. Wasn't it Buckley who was described more or less that way ("he did with his voice what Hendrix did with the electric guitar")? Details, Hammill is up there in Olympus right next to Tim.

Lee Underwood (Buckley's guitarist) said that Buckley did with his voice what Hendrix did with the electric guitar; the same thing Robert Fripp (who collaborated numerous times with Hammill) says about Hammill...

eh if there’s anything to add, instead… an album that is raw tension, unheard music both at the time and even after, merging contrasts that have never been so jarring: punk and country, claustrophobic electronics and the harmonica, a legacy of the blues, the urban nightmare and the vast ancestral spaces of the desert and the prairie. Suicide and Gun Club, Kraftwerk and Robert Johnson, X and Angelo Badalamenti. I often hear that they have aged poorly: it seems to me the biggest load of bullshit… since man invented the horse of the West.

I'm discouraged by the cover... but Bill Laswell is always a guarantee. I don't know whether to give it a try. For example, once I got burned by "Gonna Take a Miracle" by Laura Nyro, a completely different genre. I didn't notice LaBelle in the credits and who expected rhythm 'n blues??? A genre that, by the way, I don't even like. Sorry for the digression.
