The Smashing Pumpkins: Zeitgeist
CD Audio Not intrested ★★
2007: when I listened to it for the second time I fell asleep... hmm? hmm? hmm?
Tom Waits: Bone Machine
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
If I had to save only one Tom Waits album from the end of the world, it would be this one. The ocean doesn't want me...

However: why don’t they reissue the '80s albums on Island with a nice remastering and a proper booklet? I’ve been waiting for 10 years...

I might save another one, but this one is really beautiful.

What else can I say? On my personal podium of Waits, that says it all.

You know what? It's my favorite because it's the first album I listened to... it had just come out on vinyl. Almost all of his are great, and I remember the agonizing wait for mule variations in April '99.

Mule is very beautiful too, but for the same reason you're attached to Blue Valentine, I am as well.

but blue valentine is a great album! well, I have a slight tendency towards the mutant tom that came out in the decade that followed. and it's right that everyone has their own preferences. anyway, great album blue valentine. no doubt about it.

No, but it's not a matter of taste because I also prefer Waits "post Rain Dogs"; it’s just that I’m attached to Blue Valentine as it was the first Waits album I ever listened to, and even though I admit there are better ones, it will always remain my favorite.

Better? Well, very, very different Zanna, and therefore preferable or not (as in my case, yours, and Psycho's) but a "Blue Valentine" and I'll even say a "Closing Time" (a true collection of perfect songs) don't falter in front of any other Waits album, although I too am particularly enchanted by Waits from 1983-1993 (especially). Zanna, you even like "post-Rain Dogs"? But do you like Black Rider?

I agree with Psychopathia about the reissues. In Rain Dogs, when you open the booklet, there’s nothing cosmic. And yes, a well-done remaster would help, not too much but it would help. One last thing, just reissue these fucking vinyls. Not the Asylum ones, the ones after those. At home, I have two copies of Rain Dogs, the first one has a damaged cover, I got over it because they’re hard to find, so I bought another one and Singapore skips. SINGAPORE, just imagine the frustration of knowing you wasted money after not even a minute of playing it on the turntable.

I’ve never heard of Balck Rider, Acca. I’m talking about "post Rain Dogs" because the evolution is evident from there on, not because all the albums after that are better than the previous ones.

I don't understand, fang, the evolution is evident after "Rain Dogs"? Wouldn't you hear the evolution in "Swordfishtrombones"? Or are you talking about the later evolution, the one that is completed with this album? I didn't quite get what you mean.

My speech is much simpler than you think: I forgot that Swordfishtrombones came out before Rain Dogs, not after...

Inside here, there are tracks like: "Black Wings," "Ocean doesn't want me," "All Stripped Down," "Such a Scream," "In The Colosseum," "Jesus Gonna be here," "Dirt In the Ground," "I Don't Wanna Grow Up"... do I need to say more?

I referred to "the other" in my definition of the album and in the review of Pavilion of Dreams by Budd.
