Marilyn Manson: Antichrist Superstar
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
You may mock me, but in the late '90s, that album brought me a lot of joy. Maybe 4 is too much, but it had its reasons.

Few fucks but this, at the time, was a great album. Thanks to Reznor?

I think they have quite a bit, even though Manson had something (he's not stupid). Then I believe both have declined; Downward Spiral and Fragile are, in my opinion, great albums, but now I struggle to listen to them again (also because I know them by heart).

The Downward Spiral I’ve consumed. One of the greatest masterpieces of the '90s. What times... I’m not nostalgic, never have been, but I can’t help but notice that back then they were still releasing rock albums that made me jump out of my seat and exclaim "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS???". :D

ps. I saw them in the summer of '94 in America, NIN. Scary.

It's true, there were more beautiful records. But back then, I used to read magazines and visit Wide Records in Pisa every day; I did it for years until it existed. If I had to tell you a title that impressed me from 2001 onwards, I wouldn’t know... and yet in my collection, there’s definitely something. It’s just that almost nothing impresses me nowadays.

And the magazines. I used to read stuff like Rumore, Rockerilla, occasionally Hard, a magazine that vanished with the new millennium, Metal Hammer UK version, hahaha... it was a great time because even thanks to the so-called Seattle scene, even the media and MTV shone a light on realities that otherwise today only you, me, and about 10 others would know :) Since 2000, tons of great albums have come out... and they keep coming, but it’s harder to find them, despite the internet... there’s just too much stuff out there! Anyway, there have been great things, I think of Oneida, Liars, Burial, Matmos, Asva...

Hard was toilet paper, though :) Guns and Roses and Marilyn and that's it. Yes, it's true, there’s good stuff and I know the artists you mention except for Asva. But for all their validity, they don't really move me. I mean, they don't give me the emotion that, for example, feeling pumped while listening to Los Angeles by X or the Malaria! compilation does! Just to mention two groups that aren’t exactly essential from the past. I've always been old inside... ah ah ah

Yes, only the reviews section was worth it... the rest was laughable. In fact, sometimes I’d pick it up just for a good laugh. The mail was hilarious… What doesn’t tismuove you? The ASVA? I’d love to see that! They do a kind of hyper-drone doom, a harmonic scan every 6 minutes :D

I don't know the Asva. However, on Tuesday I'm getting Amplifier Worship by Boris!!! And that's thanks to your recommendation. Let's hope it's good, I only knew about Akuma no Uta or whatever the hell it's called...

The best were also the MTV Unplugged and Claudio presenting Planet Rock on Radio RAI, a show that was amazing. One evening he lined up 3 songs by Pantera :-D

PS The last time I jumped out of my chair to exclaim "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS???", it was for The Mars Volta.

Oh yes, dear Rolando... I remember it like it was yesterday when I watched Pantera live at Donington '94 from home, all this (listen, listen) on MTV in the middle of the afternoon. I remember those days very well; I was swamped with my high school finals. Then after the exams, I flew to the States. Concerts galore. And LSD... :D

In my opinion, "A Portrait of an American Family" is better. I find this one a bit cheesy, although two songs are good.

I increasingly realize that my musical knowledge, which I thought was more than good, is falling apart...completely unknown band...I rush to cover my tracks...and the list of albums to find online is growing exponentially.

One of my favorite albums by the English group; long songs, with a sense of perpetual oppression and that violin sound that pins you down.

Suicidal. Seriously... I have it on LP. Undoubtedly a fascinating album but way... way too heavy. And I love ultra-heavy stuff, I love really difficult things like the early Earth. But this completely throws me off.

...since I'm at it, I'll listen to it again tonight, alright. Who knows, after 15 years of not doing it, putting it back on might make me fall in love with it. Lately, I've found myself several times rediscovering things that didn't captivate me back then.

@Silas; I listened to it again this afternoon: the opening of "The Cry of Mankind," with that obsessive and repetitive drum sound, is something that is overwhelming. Then comes Aaron's detached voice that sends shivers down your spine. Not to mention the parts where the violin devastates...

Tonight I'm putting it back on. With soft blue light, a comfy chair, and homemade hashish within reach...

It's a shame about the distance that separates us; virtually I will be there with you; just listening to the ample hour of the record. I leave the "smoke" to you: for decades I’ve been living a healthy life without any excess... except for Music.

:-) it's the only vice I still allow myself daily. But I've had much worse, so... I just love smoking. Ahahah. I'll let you know if it completely wins me over with more mature ears. I really haven't put it back on in ages... Good evening, my dear.

If you come through the 12-plus minutes of the first track unscathed, you have a good chance of making it to the end; have a good evening to you too, my dear.
