The album would almost deserve a 5, but the highest rating goes to the previous trio. A band that is still underrated; they have nothing less than the idolized sacred monsters of the time.

The poor man's Deep Purple, dispensable.

A "disorganized" record with many beautiful ideas that are not well-coordinated. It was supposed to be Hammil's solo, but it became the first work of one of the top prog bands.

timeless!

I was just talking about it a few days ago, in my opinion the most beautiful of the VDG, tight from the beginning to the end and with multiple very high peaks. I believe that the sometimes inflated term "Masterpiece" is well used and appropriate in this case.

    Masterpiece!
  • The most beautiful, yes. The other masterpiece "Pawn Hearts" is more twisted and laborious; this one is rounder and smoother. The three suites that conclude it, more cerebral, are well balanced by the two big openings, the almost heavy metal "Killer" and the semi-despairing yet fluid and melodically exquisite "House with no Door." It’s still a pleasure to listen again to the meticulous textures of Banton, a great connoisseur (also technically) of the Hammond organ, and then the disorienting scores of Jackson on saxophones, a kind of Toni Iommi of the winds, and then the exquisite stylistic variety of Guy Evans, lord of the toms and cymbals, all three surrounding (intermittently with the help of the hyper-distorted Fripp-like guitar) the challenging yet unique sound emission of Hammill’s superb and tormented voice.

The most beautiful already. Together with Pawn. But this is the most beautiful and the one I'm a bit more attached to.
